Happy birthday to Brian Markinson, who recently played Dr. Boyce on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He has a long Trek history: He played Vorin in TNG's "Homeword," Durst and Vidiian Durst on Voyager, and Giger in DS9's "In the Cards."

Happy birthday to Callum Keith Rennie, who played Commander Rayner in the 5th and final season of Star Trek: Discovery. He was a great addition to the show and would've stayed in the cast had it gotten another season.

Today we wish a very happy birthday to Walter Koenig, Pavel Chekov on Star Trek TOS and in 7 movies, and the voice of UFP President Anton Chekov in Picard. He also wrote an episode of The Animated Series, "The Infinite Vulcan."

Happy birthday to Clyde Kusatsu, a big fan of The Original Series who played Vice Admiral Nakamura in multiple episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He auditioned to play Quark on DS9, and has served on the Board of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation since 2012.

Happy birthday to Mary Kay Adams, who played Grilka in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's "The House of Quark" and "Looking for par'Mach in All the Wrong Places". (Memory Alpha tells us she's a descendant of US Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams.)

Happy birthday to Susan Gibney, Dr. Leah Brahms (one holographic, one real) in two episodes of TNG, then Captain Erika Benteen in two episodes of Deep Space Nine. She was a frontrunner to play Janeway on Voyager, too!

Happy birthday to Roxann Dawson, Star Trek: Voyager's B'Elanna Torres. She directed 2 Voyager and 10 Enterprise episodes, plus Agents of SHIELD, The Chi, This Is Us, The Morning Show, Dark Matter, Foundation (on which she's also an EP), and many more.

OTD, the Star Trek: Voyager episode "The Gift" premiered, and the Voyager crew bid farewell to Kes. As a parting (and titular) gift, Kes sent them safely past Borg space, taking ten years off their journey home. Seven of Nine joined the crew.

On her birthday, remembering Margaret Armen, who wrote for Star Trek TOS and The Animated Series. Her episode "The Lorelei Signal" put Uhura in command for the first time. She also wrote for The Six Million Dollar Man, Mod Squad, The Bionic Woman, Land of the Lost, and more.

Happy birthday to Jeffrey Combs, who's played so many roles on Star Trek we couldn't squeeze them all into one photo (although we gave it a go). He's been on Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and Lower Decks—and in one episode of DS9, he played both Brunt and Weyoun 8.

What else makes this Star Trek Day? 52 years ago today, Star Trek: The Animated Series premiered with "Beyond the Farthest Star," written by Samuel A. Peeples (who also wrote Star Trek's "Where No Man Has Gone Before").

On this day—60 years ago!—Star Trek premiered on American television with the episode “The Man Trap” and history was made. The episode was chosen to be first because it had action, a monster, and showed “strange new worlds.” Happy Star Trek Day!
