I've noticed I've been watching YouTube less and less. Maybe I'm just saturated, but I dunno, it feels just kinda like every channel is the same and that I can't trust them to not have an agenda.

I was wondering to myself what other songs from the GBA I could work on for Project Atlantis other than Pokémon and Mario Kart... But then I remembered the *perfect* song I have arranged before and always regretted not doing more because of the GB limitations. The hint is GS (not Gold/Silver) 🤭

It's incredibly frustrating how much louder the VSU noise channel is compared to the DMG. I'm running the VSU at volume *3* and it's still about the same loudness as the DMG on max (15). This is mostly because the sound is way more "grating" so it stands out way more than the DMG's.

✨Everlasting Blue💙 Here’s a closer look at the cover of my new fanart book featuring new and old art of Rissa! Preorders for it close at the end of the day on Monday April 20, 2026 so check it out! I’ll have the book at all cons this year but preordering gets you 2 bonus items💙 #RavenCrafts

New theory for what causes my migraines: they are triggered whenever my brain requires more energy. When I'm working a lot, playing games (seeing images flashing around), or simply because I haven't eaten in a while. And I have some metabolic issue that prevents me from tapping into energy reserves.

I was struggling with the wave volume on Project Atlantis' VSU and decided to manually measure the ratio between a pulse at max volume in the VSU vs DMG. A constant that pops out, even by roughly measuring pixel values in a screenshot—about 2.678. But this can't be random, right? So I dug deeper.

A bunch of my online friends around my age or younger seem to be going through this sort of nihilism where the world feels so shitty that no one really has any motivation to do anything productive. How long will it take until someone in power to notice and do anything about this? Probably never.

Something I've discovered from testing: the VSU waves don't have 4 times the resolution; they are literally 4 times as tall and thus 4 times as loud. This means that they completely drown out the GB waves if I'm not careful. In a real system, it's likely there would be some master audio switch tho.

Something I've noticed with chiptune is that it tends to sound better and more vibrant with artificial waves, rather than waves directly sampled from real instruments. It's also the reason why pulse channels are so iconic and "neutral". Problem is, I'm still very much a noob when it comes to this 😅

Okay, I was slightly wrong. FM synthesis is done *per* wavecycle instead of being an effect done per note. The difference is the scale—vibrato is "macro-scale" while FM is "micro-scale". In other news, foobar's VB plugin does not accurately reproduce the VSU's FM modulation 😖

Wait a fricking second. So FM synthesis is basically just the same thing as applying a looping frequency macro? I thought this was some highbrow technique, but you can *technically* just do this on any old system. All this talk about carrier waves and modulation and you can just do this in software.

I've discovered that the Virtual Boy waves' metallic tinge can be effectively masked after all channels are mixed together. Meaning that it's way better to do the bass, harmony, and percussion first, and only then touch on the melody.
