Wine has gotten SO MUCH BETTER, both technology-wise in terms of preventing faults but also quality, variety, and expressions of the wine makers. It's unbelievable. Also mountain(eering) gear. It's unbelievably lighter, more waterproof, (sometimes) better for the environment. It works.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

Haven't looked at the documents for this process, and I'm willing to take on faith that there's some stuff in there that needs cleaning up. When I was dealing with EU procurement this was a nightmare. However, of all the things to remove, you emphasise net zero and the environment??

From the FT: Haigh said the old procurement system included “a whole gamut of conditions around net zero, around the environment. There were things that I think a lot of businesses would have struggled to prove, like tackling domestic abuse and improving high streets. It became quite amorphous.” The result was that “certain players could really game the system” and small and medium-sized businesses were “crowded out”, she said.

I do seem to recall the new Prime Minister and Chancellor together facing the difficult issue of whether twiglets were a top bar snack, and that being lauded with immense levels of media tributes as if he'd discovered how to talk pauper. It's good to have priorities.

This is true and it IS terrifying but I have rarely seen a group more determined to not do anything positive wrt to climate change than farmers. Absolutely determined to go down in the burning ship. There are good examples, but as a class hooo boy. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

It only took 5 different callouts from 5 plumbers and 3 months for my landlord to concede that, yes, the dishwasher was indeed at the end of its life and we should get a new one. Like I said we needed to before visit 1. Hey, it's your money you're wasting Mr Landlord.
