A lot of how people Of A Certain Type And Vintage behave becomes a lot clearer when you reflect on how a ton of assertive communication, management, and parenting stuff from the 90s and 00s portrays conversation and speech as a competition you need to win to be understood/respected.
Telling you you're not following the right process to ask a question/request a change/etc then never telling you what the right process actually is is on page 1 of the community consciousness suppression handbook.
I literally just peaked at the Scritchy Scratchy thread on the AP server and the mods are ripping someone apart for asking if gen AI is used in the AP world and other AP worlds they’re interested in playing. Jesus fucking christ something needs to change on that server.
I wanna use BBG's social media pipe to boost other niche events through the year. It sits unused 10 months out of the year.
I wrote a text placing engine and used it to make a silly promo image for my girlfriend's special theme stream tomorrow.
Every now and then I wonder if I should be more front-of-house about running BBG. I bet most don't know I've been the kind of de facto marathon chair for 3 years now because I don't like flaunting and worshiping hierarchy. But it also means "The staff" is kind of an unknowable cloud of people.
Also I tend to be pretty deep behind the curtain because I'm not officially Licenseathon staff but their video transit was all on my home-built video CDN and I like using it to power small marathons. My crappy project site I need to flesh out is here if you want to know more: restream.space

A pretty spectacular turnout, IMO. Glad something I used my weird hobby fixations to help build had such an impact. I even ran in it this year too :P
Thank you all for coming out to support #Licenseathon2026 and the Transgender Law Center! With your powers combined, we've raised $1763 USD for a good cause and made this by far the most successful Licenseathon to date! See you all next year, everyone :)
And we have just hit $1000 raised for the Transgender Law Center! Not only have we met our final bonus incentive, but also our campaign goal for this weekend, and it's only Saturday! Thank you all so much! Don't stop now though, we want to see how far we can go! licenseathon.live/donate!

Hachiemon run went well. Licenseathon's made about half of their target in the first day so I hope that means they'll pull in about 1500-2000 overall.
This is on now. I've got a run in this evening. twitch.tv/licenseathon
Remember folks that we're raising money for the Transgender Law Center this weekend! Every dollar helps them protect the well-being of LGBTQIA+ Americans in these trying times. If you're at all able or interested in supporting their cause, head over to licenseathon.live/donate!
My opinion is not complicated. The start and end of it is anything produced with, or with the support of, genAI is worse than nothing. Not only does it produce something you can, at best, claim is a rough simulation of the thing asked for, but it chills real work because "A thing" exists.
Now that SGDQ is over, polite reminder that submissions for BBG are open until July 31. If you enjoyed silly block, ready yourself for an entire weekend of silly, janky, and weird stuff! Silly block was so good~ uwu;
It's time, jank fans! BBG 2026 submissions are now open! We'll be open the entire month of July. Check out the submission info page and get a link to the signup form here: bigbadgameathon.com/submissions.... Show us your weird stuff!
github.com/oengusio/oen... This is one of those issues that tests how cool a thing and its maintainers is going to be I swear. But we'll see if I can fix the Oengus pronoun issue.
Freeform pronoun selection · Issue #404 · oengusio/oengusio
What is the feature? At present, the pronoun field in the profile edit page cannot accept arbitrary pronouns that are not in the pronoun.page list. I would like to request a way to address this as ...

Peeking some mentions of some new classes in the ASFF remake/update that's being worked on and ooooo. Yeah I'm gonna get to route this out again, and I'm kind of actually excited for that. I hadn't really developed the first take fully and it had some bumps.
I'm nobody and no one should care about what I think about the GDQ/SNK thing, but speaking from a place of personal feelings? That sucked to go from that amazing GDQ to this today. I described it as "The nasty long fall from wresting rare queer joy from a joyless world to this just hours later"
I'm gonna just pretend the carefully worded benediction before the Rift of the Necrodancer blindfolded incentive is what killed Graham. That was as close to a sigil charge as I've seen someone drop on a stage like that. I don't entirely believe in that stuff but I don't *dis*believe it either.
For the record: SGDQ's donation take was down a couple of percent, almost equal to the drop in sponsor take. So once again the community showed up almost exactly as much as they always have, and the sponsors/corpos didn't. We don't need em. Super proud of the community every event.
Oh I got Hachiemon into Licenseathon. Time to cram for that. I apparently tuned into their schedule reveal just after they revealed it so I spent the entire time figuring I didn't get in, lmao.
I just used the phrase "As someone who's been a speedrunner for 15 years" and holy shit. I had to double check. SGDQ 2012 is when a visiting friend walked into my room and went "Hey check out this stream, you'll like this event" 14 years this week. Gods below.
Every now and then I hear this take... "It's insulting to the devs to take their work and beat it in 30 minutes on stage while not doing anything to appreciate that work" In a way that's why BBG exists but, is it not implied that getting a run to "GDQ good" means having to love playing that game?
r/speedun: "The host was talking over the runner EVERY SECOND, the runner looks so frustrated and helpless T_T" The host: "Hey it's been 14 minutes can I sneak in a donation between songs in your showcase?" The runner: [having the time of their fucking life] Social media, not even once.
Anyway what an intense day at the races eh? I don't think I've felt more in a single GDQ day ever. Course I am also in the throes of rewiring my endocrine system and that's making it all hit harder. I've been up like 20 hours. I should do something about that.
I've kind of been sitting with that video MSF ran on GDQ for the past couple hours A couple years ago I was left disappointed but understanding by their message stopping short of speaking truth. They gotta play the game after all. But polite doesn't get it done I'm glad they went all in this time
I got into an argument last night about if GDQ is doing better or worse over time and had someone drop the hot line "You run the speedrun marathon equivalent of a participation trophy" as if that's supposed to be some kind of sick burn. I'm putting that on my business cards! Hell yeah.
GDQ community lowering the rent with the crowd cheering in the background in response to the runner going "In this game you get to punch the police!" Love to see it.
One of my favorite little things about Mr. Bones is the word "BONES" on the screens is your health gauge and you lose one bone/line at a time. Which gave rise to "BONF"
...we Toobin' Binned a game at Kusogrande Live at SGDQ... I have no idea if the VOD will actually make it out to the public eye or anything so I'm not going to spoil too many details yet. Sigh :)
