I've been using MiSTer for a good while now but it was a lot of fun to get the actual real deal system out again.
It's not as crazy a thing as it used to be but I still sometimes find myself amazed that this image is coming out of a roughly 30 year old PS1.
For some stupid reason, I beat Earthworm Jim on SNES and Mega Drive back to back over the last 2 nights. I really struggled with the SNES version's lower horizontal resolution and wanted to demonstrate how it can have an effect on difficulty!
This game aged mostly brilliantly. It's hard to describe how next-gen this felt at the time.
I'm not a massive CRT enthusiast but I'm often surprised by how unintrusive the RT4K filters are. This is using the brand new Butterworth blur effect!
The new blur features in the RT4K Pro may appeal to you!

I recently picked up Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night for cheap and... is it me or is this game very middle of the road? Once I got over the Castlevania fan service, it didn't feel like much beyond a clone of Dawn of Sorrow/Order of Ecclesia.
Honestly, the second you take your eye off one of them, they get up to some shit.
This one was inspired by the little fire escape round the back of the RPD. I wonder if Capcom just had one poor bastard modelling clutter all day long.

Is there ever anything quite as humbling as watching back your own Dark Souls 2 gameplay footage? I haven't played this game in like 3-4 years and it shows.
Sometimes I wish we could go back to the simpler "when u nutted but she still suckin" times of the internet.
Seriously, the clutter is what brings these things to life but good lord it's so tedious to make. Learning Blender in this way has really made me appreciate the work that went into the old RE games.
It's actually silly how hard I tried to make this look like an authentic PS1 FMV but, god damn, I think I actually nailed it.
A big part of getting these renders to look "accurate" is how shitty to make the shading. Even just adding 1 layer of light diffusion makes things way too realistic!
This one has certainly been a challenge. Something you overlook in games like RE1 etc is the amount of clutter - I'm gonna guess that almost all of it was modelled in house.
More work but I feel like the textures on the wall are too "real". Oh well. I learned a lot making this.
I've been enjoying messing around with making pre-rendered backgrounds. There was something oddly creepy about the cleanliness of the environments in RE1.
