We were very pleased today to receive a visit from author Hester Grant who has written a wonderful book called ‘The Twitnam Summer- Friendship, Satire and the Writing of Gulliver‘s Travels’. Here Hester browses some of our collection of books by Alexander Pope.

Staurolite is noted for its cross-shaped twinned crystals, It is not found in the U.K. Sometimes known as a fairy cross, it was used as a talisman/good-luck charm. This piece was found in the roots of a fallen tree in Bushy Park in the 1950s. Kindly donated by Simon Hoare.

Architectural fragments from the 15th century Church of St Mary the Virgin, Twickenham. The nave of the church collapsed on the night of April 9, 1713. Apart from the church's Kentish ragstone tower, these may be the only extant stones from the exterior of this medieval church.
