I grew up living between St Albans and Hatfield at the time that it turned from Hatfield Polytechnic to the University of Hertfordshire and the rate at which it just ballooned all over the place was incredible. When I went to university, it was one campus which mostly did engineering.

So it's farewell to the History subject area at the University of Hertfordshire, not the first nor the last to go. One of the best departments in the country, just extinguished like a snap of the fingers. Think of the waste. (1/2)

First game of the new season today, lads, and it's off to Newhaven vs Crawley Down Gatwick in the SFCL, which involves passing through Brighton railway station on the morning of Pride, so I'm fully expecting to arrive there smelling of Bacardi Breezers and covered in glitter.

Both of my grandfathers were builders. I even started out in the same area, I worked in the building trade until the summer of 2000. One of my grandmothers was a maid - my mum *hated* that - while the other one was a cleaner. I'd definitely have been able to cope with the latter of these.

When I'm the General Secretary of Alt-FIFA, my first ruling is going to be no more gold on shirts. No exceptions. (There'll be quite a lot about kits, TBAH - banning sleeve sponsors, for one thing.) (This post was prompted by seeing that the currently Italy shirt has gold stripes on the sleeve.)

I think it's a combination of two things - firstly, it's considerably easier to romanticise going downt' pits, working in a steelworks or in a car factory if you've never done it yourself.

Wondering how much the current Labour Party’s fetishising of jobs in manufacturing is rooted in sentimental guilt at their/ their parents having got on. Burnham is an Eng Lit grad! None of these people went down t’pit (they might be more enthusiastic about education as a way out if they had done).

Seconded, and the fact that our governing bodies are so craven that it feels impossible that they'd ever do this shouldn't mean that we shouldn't be pushing for it. The idea of UEFA seceding from FIFA would have been unthinkable just a couple of years ago. Momentum is on our side (not that lot).

It is very hard to see how anything other than a secession of all UEFA countries from Fifa (which other confederations would follow, as the WC is worth very little without European teams and markets) can put a stop to the assault Infantino and his US friends are leading on football.
