I saw yesterday that some right-wing outlets were running stories about me, which I’m used to. But this time I’m going to say something about it, because these were framed to imply that I was aligned with their own transphobia. ⬇️

Discovering I'm asexual helped me be able to vocalize the true person I am and to cut out those who refuse to accept my true self. Discovering I'm asexual helped me find the courage to stop following the crowd and to make my own trail.

No longer did I feel like I needed to be a faker or put up a front. Discovering I'm asexual helped me discover my freedom. Discovering I'm asexuality helped me find my voice.

I tried to fit in and play a character of what everyone else was being. In the end, I was being a poser. When I found out what asexuality was and that it fit me personally, I felt a wave of euphoria. No longer did I feel I needed to act like somebody else or try to follow the crowd.

I'm so happy that I've been able to find out why I'm who I am. I had been searching for years, trying to discover why I wasn't interested in everything everyone else was. I was trying to understand why I just didn't feel like I belonged with everyone else.

For so long, I shut myself off to dating, because of my asexuality. I basically assumed that if I ever even tried to date, that it would never work out, since any prospective partner would want to have sex at some point. So, I gave up on dating.

In church, I remember being told the verse 1 Corinthians 7 that says that you can't "deprive" or "withhold" your partner of sex, because that's a sin. Because of all that, I gave up on dating as an asexual, and it's why I've never been on a date in my life. I wonder if anyone can relate to that.

Throughout my life, I was told that I could never date because "sexual compatibility" is a huge deal in relationships, and that if you're not having sex with your partner, you can't date anyone.

Question for my fellow asexuals: Has anyone else besides me ever felt resigned to being single because they're asexual? Has anyone else besides me given up on dating, because society says sex is a prerequisite for dating? Anyone besides me? —Songbird ♠️🂡💜🏹

I'm more than certain that I'm grayromantic asexual. I am more than certain. I have a romantic "love" drive, where I feel romantic feelings very strongly, singing love songs on repeat. It's strange. My feelings fluctuate like that. Some days I'm okay with not being in love, and others I desire it.

Today begins Asexual Awareness Week, my favorite week. Finding out I'm asexual was a godsend. When I discovered I'm asexual at age 26, I finally felt like the puzzle pieces fit together. The Ace community helped give me the words to understand myself. I'm forever grateful to the Ace Community!
