🌊 Ambition for a Clean Tyne: Setting a New Standard for Our River & Coast Every time heavy rain hits raw sewage flows into our river. Cleaning up after the latest plastic pollution event shouldn't be where our ambition ends. Getting back to a polluted "baseline" isn't enough.

Beach Update: 8am worrying accumulation of plastic pellets has washed up along Longsands and many more on Fish Quay overnight. ⚠️ Please avoid stepping on affected sand to prevent pushing pellets deeper in. Cleanup teams are on-site working hard, but scale is bigger than seen for a while

This animation follows the ~17 tonnes of pellets released from 19 July for 37 days to 25 August, with future wind forcing extended using the BBC Weather forecast for the area. To add in a known long term problem Sewage outfall figures at the top including Monday evening😞.

Depressing week in politics. A week ago riding Kidical Mass along the coast with hundreds of children & families. 😔 local father killed in a collision on their bike at the edge of my Ward last week. Impossible to comment on that directly this close to an election & with the family still in shock.
