How did we live before muse? It’s such a significant quality of life improvement.
"Software has always been changing, this is no different", is beside the point. When changes happen this fast, we are allowed to grieve the loss of what we loved. You ARE allowed to grieve. Grieve. I'm with you.
Attention is drawn to movement / change. But in the stillness is where we find peace.
You are not your thoughts. Not even this one. Or this one. Or this.
It feels good to know I'm not the only software engineer in a bit of a crisis: 2026.stateofdevs.com/en-US

It’s important to be right. But FAR more important to optimize for connection.
I don’t know. And maybe I’ll never know. But I’m sure as hell going to enjoy figuring it out.
Planning out a product or system is like trying to plan an entire basketball game. Set the goal, work as a team, and remain as impartial and observant as possible.
We all believe lies if they rhyme with what we want to believe

The funny thing about meditation/mindfulness teaching is that it tries to teach content of which only you can see/understand. It's like a math teacher trying to teach when everyone has their own secret counting/number system. The best they can say is look and see what your subjective experience is
As a software engineer with 18 years experience I'm starting rounds of interviews this week... I have no idea what to expect, wish me luck!
Suffering = Experiential Intensity x Reactivity Intensity can be up or down, clinging or aversion. Notably, the reactivity side of the multiplication is much more in our control. Taking it to 0 eliminates suffering even when having intense pleasure or discomfort.

How you feel after writing code is MORE important than the output. If you feel like crap about an AI code review, scrap it and write it yourself!
Any observation you make about the world is a partial reflection of your mind

@johngreensbluesky.bsky.social if you’re ever in Kingston MA there’s an excellent book bar (and library) in the John st/Green st/Crown st triangle 😂
Product folks coding AI slop slows everything down. Please stop.
Rapid prototyping via vibe coding is a great way for PMs to check assumptions and get closer to understanding how to be effective
A key feature of an oasis is its size, otherwise we call it a jungle. This is why your side project seems so great.
Honesty is the greatest virtue in coding. The shape of your data implies intent. Make that intent truthful for what you mean.
@ezraklein.bsky.social when will you apologize to Sam Harris?
So now our PM can use cursor to churn out sweet prototypes to show with sales to win new customers! ...and then the engineers have to actually build that thing???
@hankgreen.bsky.social why is it impossible to unsubscribe in complexly?
