Studying how institutions shape behavior, erase dissent, and call the process “order.” Observation as resistance. From the Guatemalan highlands, I write about history’s echoes in today’s optimized world—with wit and skepticism. https://uortego.substack.com

The system doesn't sort people. It sorts the futures available to them. Four forms. Centuries apart. Same mechanism. Nazi Germany announced it. Jim Crow embedded it. Facebook dissolved reality. Algorithms made it invisible. None required belief to function. #surveillance #power #algorithms #history

The medals aren't pride. They're insulation. Strip them and you don't demote a man — you erase his claim to have ever existed correctly within the system. The uniform is a scoreboard. Everyone reads it. uortego.substack.com/p/when-legit... #NorthKorea #Power #History #SystemsThinking

The story is Ava Gardner swam naked in the pool at Finca Vigía and he ordered it never drained. Whether it happened exactly that way is beside the point. The story survived. Cuba kept the island. The pool kept the afternoon. Only one scaled. uortego.substack.com/p/when-the-p... #Cuba #Hemingway

There was a time a president’s profanity could derail a career. Now it barely registers. Not because we’re looser — because speech isn’t the lever anymore. Performance replaced persuasion. Distribution replaced consequence. uortego.substack.com/p/when-profa... #Media #Legitimacy #Profanity
