"When propaganda conflicted with reality and nobody believed the propaganda anymore." This is also what has begun to happen in lower income brackets of Trump supporters. You can't argue with the empty wallet. The curtain is pulling back on the entire charade. In Russia, and hopefully in the US.

It’s also partly that Ukrainian success with drone technology has really prevented Russians from moving forward. The system is running into reality, and that’s how Soviet Union finally broke down. When propaganda conflicted with reality and nobody believed the propaganda anymore.

Trump’s reversal on allowing Ukraine to build Patriot air-defense systems after speaking with Putin is another reminder of who seems to have the most influence over him — and that even when it comes to protecting Ukrainian civilians from russian missiles, this US administration can’t be counted on.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that Russia's war in Ukraine can no longer be viewed as a purely regional conflict. The theater of military operations is closely linked politically and technologically within the system of rivalry between global players, in particular the US and China⤵️

This post is special to me bc one of the families we sponsored is from Kherson, the watermelon capital of not just Ukraine, but all of Europe. This year we have watermelon seeds that are the Kherson melon variety, and we're growing them together. 🤞 we get at least one melon, so they can taste home.

How Ukrainian farmers grow watermelons near the front line In this report, the Kyiv Independent's Dominic Culverwell and Nick Allard travel to Ukraine's agricultural heartland, documenting how two brothers survived Russian occupation, rebuilt their farm from scratch, and conti...

🚨 This is what Ukrainian skies looked like overnight. Russia launched a massive combined strike targeting peaceful cities from Kyiv and Lviv to Dnipro and Odesa.

Translation from Kremlinese: "Extremists, psychopaths, warlords / druglords around the globe are watching with great attention if conquest, routine war crimes, genocide, slavery and state-run smuggling will be normalized: to start doing things Russia is doing today in their regions of the world".

"We need to stand up for our legitimate interests. To offer something to the world,we must win.The world is watching with great attention&bated breath to see how this war, imposed on us by the West, will end." - Lavrov

It takes me 2.5 minutes to explain why it’s a lie that we gave all the weapons to Ukraine that we needed for Iran. But the lie can be said in one sentence. We’re at a disadvantage when reality is nuanced. But the truth is essential

For my more recent readers: The War (which Russia started in Feb 2014, not 2022) had begun with a string of brutal murders of Ukrainian civilians opposing Russian invasion in Crimea, Donbas and other UA regions. S. Chubenko here is one of the 3 most known martyrs, along with R. Ametov and V. Rybak.

12yrs ago russian terrorists murdered 16yo Stepan Chubenko in the Donetsk region. They tortured the boy for a week and then shot him dead w/ 5 bullets for wearing a 🇺🇦 ribbon. Rest in glory, Stepan. The world had turned a blind eye to the russian genocidal war for way too long.

McFaul: Putin will stop fighting when he’s out of money and soldiers. We should arm Ukraine, impose more sanctions on Russia and enforce the existing ones. To end the war faster, we should help Ukraine win rather than hope that protesters or oligarchs will put pressure on Putin.

APPLEBAUM: Military losses historically created radical changes in Russia. Russians have kind of mythology, "We’ve never lost wars." They’ve lost lot of wars. Every time they do, it’s pretty dramatic. Right now, that mythology and propaganda confront reality that is breaking in.

Will Western mouthpieces for the russian narrative of an "authoritarian Ukraine" have anything to say now? Despite relentless russian air attacks, Ukrainians took to the streets — and are being heard. Our institutions may not be fully mature yet, but democracy is deeply embedded in who we are.
