Talks-too-much ‘creative’ from London 🙃

I saw @seanmorl.com's show BACKCHANNEL last week and it was v good, he is v fun, recommend if u are going to Edinburgh. Anyway it reminded me of the time we did a live stream/live-draw (?!?!) together w @gfsc.community — I still think it was... pretty fun/funny?! gfsc.community/you-are-the-...

You Are The Client: We Make The Stickers

It's our first live stream! You are invited to join us tomorrow (Wed 16th April) at 7:30pm to cross to the other side and play the heinous client hectoring their long-suffering creative team.

I think often about how one of London’s largest rail hubs has ben partially turned into a shrine to the works of a transphobe. And I think about how I wish I had it in me to write a series of extremely queer YA fantasy novels set entirely on trains and train stations…

☺️ God I miss the good old days of Twitter sometimes. [She says, logging into Bluesky for the first time in months]

Been clearing out old stashes of cards and sure, most were for the recycling pile but then I found this beaut of a card that @undividual.bsky.social sent me when I was super poorly in 2019 and it made me remember that the bad place did throw up some good internet pals back in the day! Hi Emma!

A hand printed card with red and blue moths on

The thing I ACTUALLY came here to say is that even though I hate learning new software, last night I spent like two hours making a scrolling carousel of images with rollover effects in Figma. It was hard!! But I figured it out!! And while I can't show it to you for proof, I CAN boast about it

I haven't been a very good blueskyer, oh dear. Turns out I really DON'T have anything to say? No thoughts, brain empty. Anyway that's not entirely true, actually I've just been out having fun IRL. Here's my monthly blog all about that emmacharleston.blogspot.com/2025/04/apri...

April 2025

April has been real nice. I am feeling very spring-like both in mood and energy levels — which feels kinda weird and bad given how entirely ...

I am 36 years old and have suffered from congestion and colds frequently my entire life and yet NOT ONE OF YOU* EVER TOLD ME about the entire class of drugs known as ‘decongestants’?!!??! (Friends, family, partners, MULTIPLE doctors)

I sometimes wonder whether Jessie has a ‘rich inner life’ or whether she’s just no thoughts brain empty most of the time. I was just thinking about how, for the first few months we got her, every few nights, at some point in the wee small hours she would let out a single guttural, hoarse howl…

I generally consider myself a mild-mannered person but have (somehow?!) twice ended up in face-to-face confrontations with Piers Corbyn (Jeremy's shit pro-car brother) over his stance on ULEZ. So this report that came out today is music to my ears (and air to my lungs!) www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Ulez: Cleaner air for Londoners after expansion, study finds

London pollution has reduced after the controversial expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone, a report finds.

So sad to hear about the passing of Mark Pawson — I can think of few more iconic figures in the UK zine/small publishing world. I very much hope that his astonishing collections of both his own and others work will live on somewhere safe. Every time I saw his work it made me want to make something!

Towards the end of this month I am going on a holiday with Journee (the provider whose whole thing is that you don't know where you're going until you get to the airport). I did another trip with them in 2023 and it was GREAT...

The other day when I was hanging out with V she also told me that apparently the innards of Kitkats are made from crushed Kitkat, and we reflected on whether this means that the vegan Kitkats must contain a homeopathically small quantity of non-vegan Kitkat in order to even exist

eating a kitkat and thinking about how the possibility of a section of wafer being missing, leaving additional chocolate within the mould... functions like a kind of low probability gacha and probably increases the appeal of the bars. wonder if they do it on purpose.

Just sleepily read an article that someone shared titled ‘10 things I wish I knew when I started using affinity publisher’ (a pretty good piece of design software) and much of the advice in there was SO BAD that I am now fully awake and ready to teach a class on it (it’s Saturday)

I found a stray dog yesterday, dodging traffic near my local train station. With the help of several passers by, we cornered him and I caught him with a slip lead. What now? Well, had to get him out of harm’s way, so bought him home to figure out next steps. He was EXTREMELY WIGGLY
