Widespread air conditioning is needed in UK schools, care homes and hospitals to survive predicted warming, according to a report from the Climate Change Committee. Heatwaves are expected to exceed 40C in all parts of the UK by 2050 and a max temp for working must be set, the report said.

A new trade EU-UK deal could force the UK to restrict a carcinogenic herbicide currently routinely used on UK food crops. Glyphosate is used to dry out cereal crops before harvest, a practice banned in the EU since 2023. The WHO classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans” in 2015.
