How does UNHCR save lives?

Families like Gusmaira's are only just beginning to recover from Venezuela's deadly earthquakes. With UNHCR's support, survivors are accessing shelter, mental health care, legal help and protection services as they rebuild.

We are deeply saddened and concerned as 144 people reportedly dead or missing off West Africa.

More than 500 people are feared to have been aboard two boats that reportedly capsized off the coast of Myanmar. Most were Rohingya passengers risking dangerous sea journeys in search of safety. We and IOM are deeply concerned by these reports and call for stronger efforts to save lives.

Public support for refugees remains high despite years of political turbulence, socio-economic pressures in host countries and polarizing migration debates, according to a new global survey from Ipsos released with UNHCR.

A recent Ipsos poll found that 66% of respondents across 29 countries agreed that people fleeing war or persecution should be able to seek refuge in another country. That’s down just 1% point from 2025 and broadly consistent with pre-pandemic levels.
