Spade: like why soyo got offended? it has to do in the context of when you say "yokatta" (in the ballpark between "i'm happy for you" and "thank goodness")
to keep it really simple (because the exact functional uses of japanese pleasantries is frustrating) she got upset because to her it sounds like mutsumi:
a. is gloating ("i'm happy for you" [implied: because i'm in an oh so great situation myself])
b. is distancing herself from the situation (this outcome -- soyo finding happiness in mygo -- was indirectly because mutsumi led soyo on [via sakiko's orders] and pussying out at the last minute, which soyo still feels sour about)
the hitch is that mutsumi (or, i guess, the bitter melon collective) just tends to say that to herself? she definitely didn't mean it condescendingly, she tends to say "yokatta" like anytime she Doesn't Mess Up in our notes. it's a more direct "oh thank god that didn't go badly" from her
