It's been 50 years since it became apparent that we had a risk-laden relationship with oil. We've had time for this but choices were made that ignored that fact.
It's been 4 years since the 2022 energy crisis. The UK spent £44bn supporting energy bills over that winter. We've had 4 years to prepare for the next one, to invest in a robust energy advice network, to build our capacity to retrofit homes. But we are woefully unprepared for the 2026 energy crisis.
