Tuition is going up. OSAP grants are getting cut. During a cost of living crisis, families can't afford to take on more student debt. Students need more grants, not loans. And universities need more funding to help them thrive.
UWOFA bargaining begins today. President, Shawn Hendrikx and Vice-President, Kim Verwaayen share their thoughts on the Western we are bargaining for. Are you ready? #UWOFAstrong #UWOFAready #uwofanegs26

On April 28, the labour movement marks the National Day of Mourning, honouring workers who have died, been injured or become ill because of their work. We encourage academic staff associations to stand with the labour movement in the ongoing fight to build safer, healthier workplaces for everyone.
@westernu.ca numbers tell a clear story: more than $1.5 billion in surpluses since 2015, growing reserves, and enrolment rising faster than investment in full-time faculty. The issue is not just sectoral pressure. It is priorities. shorturl.at/y6anO
OCUFA is alarmed to see the Ontario government’s proposal to take over #onpse accountability and performance measures and the responsibility for evaluating campus free speech policies. ocufa.on.ca/ocufa-no-mor...
Did you know @westernu.ca over 20% of courses are taught by contract faculty? When universities rely on short-term contracts instead of stable jobs, faculty and students both pay the price. Read the @ocufa.bsky.social op-ed and join the call for #Fairness4CF 🔗 in bio.
Across Canada, 48% of college and university students report struggling with the cost of tuition fees. That’s almost HALF of students. Federal student grants are on the chopping block. Student support should be increasing, not decreasing. Tell your MP: www.caut.ca/campaigns/gr...
This Fair Dealing week, we’re breaking down myths and facts about fair dealing. There’s this belief that educators are the reason for the decline in author royalties. That couldn’t be further away from the truth. Learn more at copyright.caut.ca

At a minimum, cuts to OSAP grants will have paid for 43% of announced university funding increases—and possibly more. These changes exacerbate the affordability crisis and risk putting a university education out of reach for many students. tinyurl.com/yjccsa9r
Yesterday, we met with MP Peter Fragiskatos to address funding decisions shaping teaching and learning. We raised the Canada Student Grant reduction, capital funding barriers for affiliates, and how government support for institutional grants can improve student support and postsecondary education.
It is official. As of 12:01am, LUFA members will officially be on strike for a better, stronger university. 📢 Together we will win the contract we deserve. 🪧

University faculty & staff are the backbone of our postsecondary system. Great to meet with @ocufa.bsky.social reps from @uwofa1.bsky.social, King’s & Huron. With record enrolment, Ontario needs more investment, not more red tape, to keep our campuses strong. #onpse #onpoli

As universities and colleges cut academic programs, close programs, and slash 13,000+ jobs, Budget 2025 halves international student enrolment without boosting core funding.
This Advocacy Day, OCUFA continues to share critical issues facing our sector. Despite the government’s 2019 decision to cap and freeze domestic tuition, Ontario domestic undergraduates still pay rates of tuition well above the Canadian average with higher levels of debt.
📣 Faculty, librarians, staff, and students stood together for fairness, accountability, and the future of the campus community. The Rally for Arts and Humanities was just the beginning — we’re "all in". 💜
