I feel like I have to learn how to paint all over again and I'm kind of excited about it!
My current painting is finally starting to look like something I painted and I couldn't be more pleased.
The best way to learn to paint is to paint. The second best is to watch someone more skilled than you paint. The next best is to be forced to collect your thoughts in order to teach someone how to paint.
I had an opportunity over the past two days to paint a mural for a lovely family here in Albania. Here it is all finished on their balcony!

Just a few things to touch up, but my latest painting is done! Moving to Albania has been quite an experience, but I'm falling in love with its intrinsic beauty. 120cm x 60cm. Oil on canvas. 500 €

What do you mean that, when planning "fine art" I don't have to make sure there's a rich and robist narrative being illustrated? I... I can just paint what I want because it looks cool?
I have seven paintings laid out and pretty much set to go to the next step. I did a single color study and a flaw in my plan was laid bare and want to take the whole series back to formula. I'm not mad. This is just how it goes sometimes.
I'm 20% through my painting goal for the year! Most of that was hustle this month trying to make up lost ground due to a late start, but I did it!
All I wanted to do today was paint but my head conspired against me and I was down for the count.
Resisting the urge to scrub out the little painting I'm working on and trying again at a later date. Just having a real bad day at the easel, apparently.
I understand the theory, I've just been having a hard time mixing it lately. And that's a bummer.

I am most definitely a figurative realist and I'm tired of pretending that I'm not.
I keep showing @mrsbarker.bsky.social my sketches and her comment is usually, "It looks cool! I have no idea what's going on, but it looks cool!" That just makes me smile.
