Both Past Continuous and Past Perfect Continuous show actions that were happening in the past. They share the ‑ing form and describe unfinished actions. Past Continuous tells what was happening at one moment. Past Perfect Continuous shows what had been happening for a long time before another event.

Use PAST CONTINUOUS for something that was happening at a precise moment in the past to express an interrupted action in progress. Use PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS to express the duration of another activity up to another point in time in the past  to stress importance of the length of time.

Questions with "can" are made more polite by using "could," for example: Pardon me, could you help me? Pardon me, could you give me a hand? "Would" can also be used to make questions more polite: Would you lend me a hand with the wash? Would you mind if I sat here? May I ask a silly question?

Bild

“Would you mind if I sat here?” uses "sat"  because English softens polite requests with the past tense. It doesn’t mean the action happened earlier — it creates distance and makes the question gentler. Past form - polite, hypothetical request. A shift that makes English sound natural.

RENE MAGRITTE. 1898-1967 "Joy is not naïve optimism." He criticized the belief that seeing the world as tragic makes us more realistic or objective. Instead, he argued that our inner world can be transformed. We can consciously cultivate enchantment, beauty, and joy, making life more meaningful.

Ethnographic dazzle instead of deep understanding. Tourist Italy is a perfect example. No one knows it the way I do. Lift its skirt, and you may be disappointed by what you find. It is difficult to free yourself from both the psychological shock and the strange desire to revisit those memories.

Vibe coding is an AI-assisted way of building software. Instead of writing every line of code yourself, you describe what you want in plain language, and AI generates much of the code. The developer then reviews, tests, and refines the results. Fast, creative—but human judgment still matters.

Understanding the difference. Find out: discover or learn information. I found out the museum is closed. Figure out: understand or solve something by thinking. I figured out how the machine works. In short: find out=learn, figure out=solve or understand.

#English I wouldn't be so presumptuous. Presumptuous is an adjective meaning too confident about yourself or your right to do or say something, especially when you don't really have that right. It was presumptuous of him to tell the CEO how to run the company. He acted as if he knew better.

AI‑TOKENS are not just a digital resource — they are the first currency built entirely on meaning.  They measure access to intelligence. In the future, tokens will move freely across markets, stores, and systems, becoming a universal equivalent for gold.  Not gold, but computation.

In English, a comma often comes before a contrasting INFINITIVE or clause. It separates two parallel ideas when the second contrasts with the first. WE ARE HERE TO STOP WAR, NOT TO PROSECUTE IT. The comma highlights the contrast, making the sentence clearer, stronger, and easier to read.

Public nuisance is more than bad manners. It is an act that risks the health, safety, or comfort of the public. A teenager was fined S$600 after licking a drinking straw and returning it to a public dispenser. The company had to replace all 500 straws, even though no one used the contaminated one.

Zero, the concept of nothing. How did Sumerian scribes pioneer it as a placeholder? The earliest idea of zero wasn't a number—it was a placeholder. Sumerian scribes first left a blank space to show the absence of a value. To avoid confusion, they later used two small wedge-shaped marks.

MARCUS AURELIUS' Meditations. His book is not a guide to meditation. It is a collection of private reflections—short notes he wrote to remind himself how to live according to Stoic philosophy. In other words, his "meditations" are written reflections or self-examinations, not mindfulness exercises.

Bild

MARCUS AURELIUS never intended "Meditations" to become a classic. It was a private notebook, written to remind himself how to think, act, and endure hardship. Perhaps that is why it still feels so honest today: we are reading an emperor's conversation with himself, not a book for an audience.

Looking back at history, I have come to believe that war is a constant part of human existence. Diplomacy is not the opposite of war; it is one of the ways in which the eternal struggle between nations is conducted.
