The last few weeks have been crazy busy with work travel and conferences. Inevitably, that means trying to stick to my weight loss goals gets tougher. Weighing myself this morning and seeing a net gain of only 1.5lb since before that run of travel feels a victory. Time to kick on to my main goal!

Virginia needs to get its head out of its arse and allow brewery taprooms in residential zones. I am sitting in Hogshead Brewery in Denver, CO, surrounded by homes. The patrons, from what I can gather from my earwigging, mostly walked here and come regularly It's almost like being home in the UK.

Things I learnt (was reminded of) at GABF: 1. I hate large crowds 2. There are practically no beers I will stand in a line for 3. People still spout the same shite as 15 years ago, especially about lager 4. The number of categories is getting daft. What next, the NA Fruit Beer brewed on a Tuesday?

If these Orange Lodge bellends are so obsessed with being "British" why don't they move to Britain and try living their bigoted, hate-filled, disgrace to Jesus, lives in Birmingham, Manchester, London, Glasgow, or any other actually British - aka diverse and mutli-cultural - city? Fucking arsehats.

Talking to my youngest after he declared a "new family rule": Me: "when you're a daddy you can make new rules" Him: "who says I am going to get married?" Me: "you don't have to be married to be a daddy" Him: "oh yeah, I can just go to the orphanage and get one" Err...no denying his logic, but 🤦

Just learnt that Utah has a draft ABV limit of 5%...and that is freaking awesome! If a brewer can't make flavorful, delicious beer that is under 5% ABV, then I question their chops.

I am in Utah this week for the first time. I think I am having religious PTSD from the Pentecotal church conference in the same building as the geoscience conference I am at - memories of a former life. Thank goodness for beer.

It feels like pointing out that a krug is not a stein is the beer communicator equivalent of the arrival of pumpkin spice latte - just an indicator of the arrival of autumn/Fall. Clearly, no one outside the bubble is listening, not even the breweries themselves.

Saw a quote about poverty as a result of poor financial decisions and then conflated it with "the cycle of debt", which is interesting because viewing debt as poverty, or vice versa, makes Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Haiti "richer" than the entirety of the G7 in terms of debt as a %age of GDP.

Personal heresy, if you've never had altbier in Düsseldorf, kölsch in Köln, plzeňskè pivo in Plzeň, best bitter in England, dry Irish stout in Ireland, etc, etc, then you shouldn't be judging those categories in competitions.
