神奈川沖浪裏
A glitch video diptych inspired by Hokusai’s Kanagawa-oki nami-ura (The Great Wave off Kanagawa). The main piece is made from footage shot on a Greek island. The clips were injected into a CRT TV and circuit-bent with a glitch machine, then re-recorded in 4K and edited, colourised and composed in After Effects. The image is split into two vertical panels. The left shows a shoreline, with rocky cliffs at the top, a strip of pale sand running diagonally, and blue water breaking into rows of white foam. The right shows in details the sea and its moovment. The palette of deep blues, white and cream refers to Hokusai’s print, while scanlines, colour bleed and pixel noise come from the CRT process. The frame was made by corrupting the NES game The Battle of Olympus with RTC, recorded in OBS and edited in After Effects. It surrounds the panels with broken game tiles glitching in shapes and colors.
