One of my kids attended a summer break activity today and when I picked him up afterwards he was complaining that one of the adults had been misleading the kids. Turns out that the adult had told the kids that Earth is round. A sphere. My kid: No it isn’t, it’s a geoid. He’s 12yo 😅

Weekend musings: what I am most proud of is not the things I’ve built (or helped build) but learning that something I did or said had a meaningful impact on someone else’s way of thinking. I definitely did not see that coming when I started working some 25 years ago.

Spent a bit of time to pretend to be a network technician over the past month and moved many devices to use wired ethernet—not only does this really improve latency for those devices, but it also has freed up a bunch of bandwidth for the wifi-connected devices. Worth it!

Asked one of my sons (11yo) what he’d do if he won $4m. Him: Well first of all I would invest half in the stock market by buying shares in a number of different companies that I believe in so it isn’t as risky. Me: 😲

The kids wanted to go to a sci-fi convention and one of them wanted to cosplay as Chainsawman 😅 We built this together from cardboard, PVC-pipes, aluminium tape, and lots of hot glue 😆

Almost time for Devoxx BE! Putting the finishing touches on my presentation over the weekend, and I’m looking forward to meeting up with friends, colleagues, and talking to #java developers in person!
