#Economica 📗 in prime position on the economics shelves at Waterstones, Bath. Thank you @waterstonesbath.bsky.social

Come with me to see something that explains why #history - why studying it, reading it, researching it, and freely debating it - is so very important. #orwell #1984georgeorwell #economica 📗
#Bath - thank you for welcoming me back to your beautiful city this weekend. Not only did I see the #CrouchingVenus (as mentioned in one of my #Brexit protest videos from last month’s trip), I also managed to fit in some shopping (and, you might be relieved to hear, for clothes as well as books 😉).
Thank you Professor Almudena Sevilla for recommending #Economica 📗 as summer reading - an honour to be included alongside @shellyjlundberg.bsky.social “How Economics Discovered Women” 📚
A treat to be in central London today to meet with the brilliant Lucile Peytavin to discuss all things #feminist. #Aldwych - home to #BushHouse (King’s College, formerly BBC) and the London School of Economics - was the perfect place to discuss history, economics, society and politics.
Did you know that there were two revolutions in #Russia in 1917 and that the first was started not by #Lenin but, instead, by women? #Economica #womenwealthpower
Can a t*pless book signing be #feminist? I’ve had so many lovely conversations during my month long protest against #Brexit but this was one of my favourites. It was @blackwelloxford.bsky.social while signing copies of #Economica 📗. With huge thanks to the Blackwells #Oxford team. #womenwealthpower
“[...] people are often shocked when they realise that the naked image stood before them is an intelligent woman. Perhaps what this reveals is that people simply do not imagine that behind each nude is a thinking and breathing human being. It is a mistake that I hope they won’t make again”.
Art & Protest — Dr. Victoria Bateman
Women’s bodies are one of the biggest battlegrounds we face today. By using her own naked body in both art and protest, Victoria aims to reveal and challenge the way that women are judged by society -...

Over the course of my month long Brexit protest, I’ve had so many conversations - a lot of which, like this one, began with “why are you n*ked?”. I really do appreciate how good natured everyone has been, so thank you to everyone I have met, whether in only my shoes, just a skirt or an EU flag dress
What’s the best bit of any book event? Signing books, of course 📚. Always such a privilege - a chance to meet, chat and hear personal stories. Thank you @waterstones.bsky.social Kensington for last night’s #Economica book signing. Out now @headlinebooks.bsky.social
Lovely evening @waterstones.bsky.social discussing #Economica 📗, out now in paperback @headlinebooks.bsky.social. We spanned the centuries and the globe, placing women at the heart of the rise and decline of nations. Thank you Ciara and the team at High Street Kensington.
In London today? Want a signed copy of #Economica for family / friends or for your summer holidays? Want to hear me talk about the women who built history’s greatest civilisations? Come along to @waterstones.bsky.social Kensington tonight www.waterstones.com/events/an-ev...
Thank you to the wonderful team at St Albans Museum for hosting my talk on N*ked Feminism. A perfect end to my month long protest against #Brexit. So here I am, for the final time in an outfit chosen by the die, baring my br*asts against Brexit. Did the bar let me in afterwards? Watch to find out…
Here I am in St Albans, on my way to give a talk on “N*ked Feminism” (my 2023 📗 @politybooks.bsky.social), staying to true to the roll of my #Brexit die, which means that I am wearing just a skirt (accessorised today with a pretty bow).
My month long period of protesting #Brexit culminates this evening in, rather fittingly, my talk @stalbansmuseums.bsky.social on N*ked Feminism and the fight for women’s bodies. This means I need to roll my die for one final time…
Signing books is always such a privilege and I had so many lovely conversations this week at the #BuxtonFestival. If you’ve never been, it’s well worth dropping by, including for some of the free open air events and the #NextGen programme. The atmosphere will delight - ice creams & scones a plenty.
What a fabulous audience at the #BuxtonFestival for #Economica 📗 and a huge honour to be interviewed by Ian Muir-Cochrane. Feeling very grateful for such a memorable time in beautiful #Buxton. Economica is out now in paperback @headlinebooks.bsky.social @hachetteuk.bsky.social
Delighted to be here at the #BuxtonFestival - ready to go on stage to be interviewed about my latest book, #Economica 📗. Huge thanks to everyone involved, including Kate, Emily, Vicky, Ruth and Ian.
Today I’m heading to the #BuxtonFestival to be interviewed about my book #Economica: A Global History of Women, Wealth & Power 📗. Since I’m a #northernlass, Buxton is a place I know well and I’ll have family in the audience, so I’m very much hoping that the die lands on my EU flag dress today...
Am I damaging the tone of the beautiful city of #Bath by walking n*ked through its historic lanes and crescents? Does the female n*de jar against the Georgian architecture, or is it the perfect counterpoint to the masculine buildings? And just how liberal were the #Georgians? A few thoughts👇
What would #JaneAusten think? Would she be horrified at the sight of a n*ked woman walking down the street where she once lived in this historic and beautiful city of Bath? Or might she actually have approved? I pondered the question while out and about in Bath👇
An update on today’s n*ked protest - with huge thanks to my interviewer and also to the people of Bath. I’m now off to take a bath (in Bath)…
Emerging from the comfort of the cafe where I had just been interviewed about #Economica 📗, the more not only did I ponder whether #Georgian architecture and the female n*de mix but also - more pressingly - whether the hotel would let me back in like this. Would I be left n*ked and alone in Bath?
Here I am, walking through Bath in the outfit chosen by my #Brexit Anniversary die: just a pair of shoes. It’s not what I would have ideally worn, but I’m leaving the choice to the die to reflect the loss of freedom since Britain left the EU, and how it’s left Britain exposed on the world stage.
I’m here in the beautiful city of Bath where I have an interview today to discuss my book #Economica. As it’s an early meeting I stayed overnight in a hotel, but - since I’m still in my month long #Brexit protest period - I have to roll my die to decide what I wear. Here I go…
Next week, I’ll be in Buxton (Monday 4pm), St Albans (Tuesday 7pm) & Kensington (Thursday 6pm Waterstones). Tickets still available but are going quickly, so do book soon if you’d like to join me @buxtonfestival.bsky.social @stalbansmuseums.bsky.social @waterstones.bsky.social (📸 Circe Hamilton)
