My honest take on the Steam Machine is that it's not mean to take on Playstation or the Xbox. It's a Trojan Horse for SteamOS. Think how many people looked at it, saw the price and said "I can build that for cheaper". Valve is in it for the long game here and platform matters more than hardware.

Progress update, I got my leg tracking working! The server rewrite is finally stabilising and becoming more usable. A long way to go yet and so many experiments to do but I'm one happy wolfie! So the magnetometers in official Slimes aren’t used but I’ve a mad idea of using the headset as a position reference and then walking the room to build a magnetic map of noise server side. A bit like how Roomba’s map rooms. Of course I’d have to solve for the controllers having magnets though 🤔

Getting there slowly with the tracking server rewrite. So many gotchas but I'm learning so much! I modified the slime firmware to report angular velocity, rest/zero-velocity, as well as covariance so the server can weight per-tracker yaw trust and have more info. #slimevr #fbt #vrchat #furry
