Tonight's watch-party watchroom is set up and ready to go. The fun starts at 7pm EDT. No download or sign-up is needed. Just pick a temp username and join the chat. The movies are synchronized for everyone so we can poke fun at them in the chat together MST3K-style.
Hey Volcaneers! Tonight's Vulcanalia VolQueso watch-party room is set up. I have lined up Miami Magma and Disaster Zone: Volcano in New York for your viewing discomfort, as well as a short cartoon. The fun starts at 7pm EDT (New York/Miami time) and goes until y'all say stop. w2g.tv?r=br24hf5qqu...
Volcanohead is hosting a Vulcanalia bad-volcano-movie watch party tomorrow evening. While failure to join in the festivities won't necessarily result in your empire burning down, I make no absolute guarantees. Besides, it'll be fun!
Tomorrow, I'm hosting a watch party via WatchWithMe, featuring a truly bad volcano movie, possibly followed by others if we all decide we've nothing better to do....and also because the stoopid city won't let me have a Vulcanalia bonfire within city limits. Start time 7pm EDT (23:00 UTC). Link TBA

Meanwhile, because far be it from me to juggle eggs and anvils.... I'm working on how to resurrect the old webcams-and-datapoints map. It's still in the "Hmm" phase and nowhere near the "Aha!" phase, but I'll be tinkering with it in the background.
It's FINISHED! Global Volcanism Program's Volcanoes of the World (Ten Thousand Years of Volcanoes) is back on Google Earth Web. This is transcribed from the official Smithsonian VoTW database and is otherwise not my own work. I will curate and share it as long as is necessary.

Also, far be it from me not to pull an all-nighter or six to get a job done...but I'm almost done! 120 to go, and tomorrow they'll be a-goin'! Before you ask, no, I don't plan to push out the Pleistocene project before Vulcanalia, but it's up on the to-do list after I update my webcam playlists.

The Northwestern Pacific Volcanic Regions are now complete...BUT... But I forgot to pin all the submarine volcanoes to the seafloor. It's a fairly easy fix...or actually a few hundred easy fixes..but I'll get it done.

I'm halfway through the Northwestern Pacific Volcanic Regions now, but I think I'll wait to get going on those 65 volcanoes of the Kuriles Volcanic Arc until tomorrow. My goal is to be finished before this next Wednesday. The link, for those of you new to my madness, is below.

Eastern Asia, Eastern Australia, Eastern Pacific and European Volcanic Regions are all now added to the VoTW Google Earth Web map. I'm now starting the groundwork to do the nearly 100 volcanoes of the Middle American-Caribbean Volcanic Regions. 794 left to go!

Another volcanic region group complete! Eastern Africa, here I come!
I suppose I need an icon for the Pleistocene volcanoes. I tried taking the erupting volcano, applying a blue gradient layer, removing the lava, and making it a little taller, but it doesn't really seem quite right. I welcome suggestions.
There are 28 volcanoes on Earth's bottom now. Next up...the Arabia-Central Asia Volcanic Regions Watch this project-in-progress grow as I go. earth.google.com/earth/d/1h7T...
I know this is a volcanoes-account, but in a few hours, all those volcano webcams around the Reykjanes peninsula will be square in the path of the first solar eclipse to cross Iceland since 1954 and the first visible in Reykjavik since 1433.
2026's only total solar eclipse happens today. Here's the path and times of visibility.
The only total solar eclipse of 2026 will cross the Northern Hemisphere on Wednesday, Aug. 12, with a path of totality across parts of Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain. See when and where it will...
