The Children's Cancer Data Initiative symposium, scheduled for next week at the NCI, has been cancelled because of the shutdown. This is unfortunate. I was looking forward to hearing all the amazing progress made by so many working to leverage data for pediatric cancer research.

It is so exciting to be at the NCI today at the BSA committee meeting. While it wasn't "business as usual," it was very heartening to see most everyone excited about a solid future, where we can continue to improve cancer prevention, morbidity, and mortality.
I am super excited about this new leadership role in my research group, @d4cg.bsky.social. Help build novel methods for getting patient data directly from the EHR. Please apply! sam.am/PD2024 This will help our cancer survivorship work as well as other projects like our monogenic epilepsy commons.
So much for the "crown jewel" status for the NIH. Putting these clowns in charge is not going to help anyone. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/01/h... Could anyone ever imagine a vaccine denier in charge of US healthcare? I can't think of a worse outcome.
Long a ‘Crown Jewel’ of Government, N.I.H. Is Now a Target
The agency long benefited from broad bipartisan support. But Republican criticism has intensified, and new choices for top health posts hope to upend the organization.

Pro tip: Don't go to Costco on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The checkout line stretched to the back of the store. The staff was amazing, but it was a madhouse. #costco
