I always wanted to ask dj stingray if he gets hot with the mask but also I’m just gonna mind my own business

So after digging for awhile I think the best bet is to do something like use treeit and then using geometry nodes to make your high poly meshes. Seems the path of least resistance and keep legacy workflows / libraries. youtu.be/F5Pl5_lW0qk?...

I want to make this tree but thinking about in a UE5 nanite - every needle needs to be modelled has got me going cross eyed. Is this a speed tree thing? I’m trying to not just keep throwing new subscription apps into the mix.
I said treeit can load custom geo but don’t listen to me. I was wrong. It doesn’t but it seemed like you could for a minute there

I think Im going to tackle the trees next. They were always just place holder that I made in treeit quickly
Made some telephone poles tonight and set up a procedural BP to connect them.
Every year Ari's Unreal fest talk drops so much knowledge on you. Input latency is absolutely not what I thought it was! Which makes sense because sometimes its very high but the actual button inputs is clearly not what that stat has said. youtu.be/dKSHw_8vz3I?...

Officially back from touching grass for a week and working on this train bridge. Going much higher poly than Im used too. Really trying to embrace nanite but without getting ridiculous.
Whenever I run into annoying rendering issues in Unreal its always this. Everytime almost. Forever disabled.
Cashews- pistachios- pecans what is this mixed nuts for millionaires? I’ll never financially recover from this.
Headed to a cottage for a week but they put a cell tower up in the middle of nowhere up there so it has internet access and now I have to actively resist the urge to scroll.
I find the shader complexity debug view a little baffling sometimes. This is looking at my single master material for terrain. Its 1 material that does bog standard typical terrain stuff with 5 total layers inside it. The foliage is about as simple as you can possibly make a wind system.
Reference gathering for a very important piece in my next portoflio environement.
POV: you are looking for work as a 3d or game artist in 2026.
My machine is displaying new possibly dying behaviour. Really can’t afford a new machine right now. Going to spend the night making sure my archives are up to date at least. A dead machine rn would actually be catastrophic
They really better release a 5.8.1 because everything Ive done in a few fresh 5.8 projects have just been rolling in lighting issues.
Got extremely distracted with the annihilation tutorial by noticing very very strange shadow behavior with unreal 5.8. Im pretty sure I know whats happening- but I cant seem to actually do anything about it. Like look at the shadows on the base of the trees. Also the black shadows over the foliage
The car scene in obsession: I knew it was coming and I still fuckin jumped. Great movie but also so uncomfortable.
I knew from the first time I ever saw a tie dye shirt it was going to effect my life in a core way but who knew that would manifest in packed RGB noise textures for shaders
A simple node set up to oscillate your texture values. Going to use this in the Annihilation shimmer shader and the tutorial im making for it. From here I will use this to calculate normals and do some other fun things.
whenever I apply for a job on bebee - i just discovered that its been taking my resume, rewritting it with AI and converting it to fucking spanish. Think ive applied to like 3-4 things over the past few months through there.
I saw this cool plant. I could look it up and see what it is but that would spoil the mystery.
First pass on my little nanite friendly foliage kit complete! Need to tweak some stuff further. Some of the subsurface scattering is a bit strong. Might use a vertex channel for that. Also need to knock some of the colors around a bit more. Love colourful stuff so much right now!
Thats 10 foliage and plant assembly set ups and theres still room on the UVs. Tempted to keep going but 10 is enough. Ill leave that space so I can expand this little foliage kit in the future.
