this was a two-day fox fix.. this OLED switch had error 2002-4373, a largely undocumented error that seems to point toward file system corruption. I needed to install a modchip to be able to rebuild the OS (which is a pain on the OLED), but fortunately the OS could be rebuilt and it is booting 🦊👍

the second fox fix for today is the same as the first.. the other 5V regulator on this water damaged OLED switch was corroded in the same way, this one being responsible for power output to USB devices such as wired controllers. the pads were less corroded here, so it was an easy fix 🦊👍

today's fox fix is an OLED switch that had corrosion from water damage, particularly beneath the 5V regulator that powers the fan and joy-con charging. after cleaning up the pads I found there was enough left to work with, so I reballed a donor regulator from a parts board and now it works again 🦊👍

the first fox fix of the recent repair lot, this unit had the 2110-1118 error, which is commonly a bad wifi/bluetooth IC. I replaced it, but in my inspection I missed some corrosion that had eaten both the 3.3V and 1.8V supplies for that IC. after restoring those, this switch is online again 🦊👍

the fix fox friday (thursday) assessment: out of 30 switch OLEDs in this repair lot, 22 had no power, five booted with major issues, and three booted to the OS with minor issues. "no power" could be a bad screen, a critically low battery, a bad component halting the boot process, or other issues 🦊💭

fix fox friday on a thursday 🦊📦 my next big repair lot came in; 30 nintendo switch OLED units, all in decent cosmetic condition but likely with no power or other issues. looking forward to working on them 🪛🦊

I'm used to finding electronic components in weird places, but I think I can safely say I am one of the only people to find a nintendo switch charging IC at the bottom of their shower

a follow up fox fix; while the orange screen is often caused by the wifi/bluetooth module failing outright, this unit only did it when the wifi was active. I found this white component that connects directly to the wifi antenna had burning/heat discoloration, so I replaced it and now all is well 🦊👍

second fox fix for today; another OLED switch, this one marked as orange screen (hardware fault, usually wifi IC), with a mangled display connector. it was damaged enough to need to be replaced, but I only had the longer display connector from the original switch, so I just uhhhhhhh

today's fox fix is another pokemon go plus+; this one had no power due to corrosion on the battery PCB, as well as corrosion beneath the 5V regulator such that the LEDs only showed a dim red. I cleaned up both and got them working again, and did my auto-catch mod as well. another happy pokeball 🦊👍

today's fox fix is an OLED switch that was marked as no power; I found this was due to a damaged fuel gauge IC, which will halt the boot process at a black screen. this unit also had damaged display connector pins and a faulty charging IC.. after fixing all of that, it is booting again 🦊👍

today's fox fix was an OLED switch that was cited to have no power, but I uh. think I found the reason it had no power. I put in a battery and it turned on just fine; I will need to clean up some liquid corrosion and do my normal tests but booting to the OS first try is a very good start 🦊👍

BildBild

another pokemon go plus+ fox fix and mod 🪛🦊 this one wouldn't charge for two reasons; the battery had gone into low voltage protection, which was an easy fix with my switch/joy-con battery jumper. the fuse on the charging port was blown as well.. a slightly less easy fix, but it is all good now 🦊👍

today's fox fix is another pokemon go plus+! this unit only had a broken top button, which was an easy fix. I have also refined my great/ultra ball auto catch mod down to just one transistor and two wires, along with the 2.8v LED brightness mod from the (now) unused vibration motor. these are fun 🦊👍

tonight's fox fix: diy steamvr watchman dongles 🦊📡 you can flash these cheap NRF52840 bluetooth boards with a custom firmware to turn them into receivers for vive trackers or index controllers. the chip antenna on them is very weak though, so I replaced it with a wire antenna to improve its range 🦊👍

BildBild

wow! I can't believe someone made a battery that is almost twice the capacity and slightly smaller than the official nintendo one! I just can't believe it! I mean I literally cannot believ

according to an fcc filing, the steam frame controller appears to connect the analog stick's capacitive sensing in the same way I repaired it on my index controller, with a wire instead of a flex ribbon. hopefully it is a reliable connection and potentially easier to repair by the user 🦊💭

late night fox fix.. the capacitive sensor in my index controller's thumbstick had stopped working.. this is a notorious failure point due to the ribbon cable being subject to constant flexing. I reconnected it to the sensor IC with magnet wire, which should hopefully be more flexible

I learned a whole lot about cad software today in redesigning my face tracking mount; I wanted to somewhat mimic the design of the official vive pro mount, and I think it looks rather nice. now to 3d print it and see how it performs 🦊👍
