Kratom is an entheogen under active research to discern its possible medical applications, not just a “gas station drug.” It should be legalized and regulated so people like Mullin have no role in its production, distribution, and sale

SCOOP from @by-cjewett.bsky.social & me: Markwayne Mullin urged the Department of Health and Human Service to remove warnings from the FDA website about the health risks of the gas station drug kratom. Mullin owns equity in a leading kratom company called Botanic Tonics that could have benefited.

Quoting all this dumbass racist bullshit ("And then there’s this other dark belly of non-community members who are coming into our town with weapons") and amplifying the age-old rumours that people are being bused in from Vancouver (wasn't true in 2010, isn't true now) is journalistic malpractice

There is a growing influx of homeless people on Duncan and North Cowichan streets this spring. It's raising concerns and fuelling speculation that Vancouver is bussing unhoused people out of the city and over to Vancouver Island ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Not at all problematic that a local university is giving up a big chunk of its athletic infrastructure to Team Canada and other teams at the World Cup and the uni even use "FIFA" or "World Cup" in its communications about the event. All hail the the "global soccer tournament" soccer2026.ubc.ca
