Another compsci faux pas about #llms is there’s no concept of “general intelligence” in any modern cognitive science. That’s not a thing. We are a pool of marginally outstanding talents and specialties. “Knowledge” is a result of that swarm. Specialities / limitations is a signal of intelligence

I am a dog with opinions on the internet I am also Brian Taylor Vann 🐺🛠️💻🎮🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ I build tools for Javascript and Rust. Learning games with Godot! Founder of Here By There. I used to work for Google (Lit, Material Web) and Meta (Data center tools)
LLMs will be the reason why software gets regulated and coders will unionize LLMs bankrupt businesses, wreck self-driving cars, kill people with an extra 0, hallucinate tax records ... The result will be a cacophony of "whodunnit" lawsuits. Companies (and the gov) will blame coders
I think my favorite original sin of any "LLM as sentience" discussion is the fundamental fact that we are talking about discrete integral systems (computers) and continuous systems (chemicals, brains, electricity) One is fundamentally a simulacrum of the other. It will never be the same.
Historically accurate odyssey: There's a lot of gay sex. Like a decade of banging each other's buttholes.
That new Nolan film? You mean the one where a father neglects his family for work, feels bad about it, and then his family forgives him? Yah I seen it
Okay so Godot is pretty awesome and I don’t care who knows I think c# isn’t all that bad!
My kingdom for a 4k oled tv with 120+ fps freesync and NO SMART ANYTHING
All I’m saying is I’ve never seen Joan Cusack and Haley Stevens in the same room
With all these companies blowing through their token budget and now the DoW needs 350 billion it makes me wonder Did the us government just blow its budget on tokens??
Folks using non-deterministic random text generators are gonna find themselves barred from any real world infrastructure soon and it can’t happen fast enough Banks hospitals travel? You wanna use something that can hallucinate a ZERO and kill someone? What about a mile of shit code?
"No LLMs for brainstorming and then sharing the results of that brainstorming, even if you create the prose. If you use a chatbot to give you advice on a comment on the issue tracker, that comment is unwelcome." jesus christ the Zig anti-LLM code of conduct is deranged ziglang.org/code-of-cond...
Looking back on it AI was so friggin good at convincing every company to lay off their workers to make them financially reliant on a random-text generator Outstanding. Perfect K/D ratio. Solid wizard-of-oz metaphor. About-to-tank-the-economy level amazing
Had a few interview scenarios lately and wanted to share: - Interviewer played smash bros (figma) - Interviewer didn't understand pass by reference, their tests *never* passed and never would pass (roblox) - Interviewer said using classes is a last-resort (patreon) Deadsea effect is real y'all
All I'm saying is I've never seen Mitch McConnell and Dana Carvey in the same room ...

Did three of the Supreme Court justices commit treason by intentionally misinterpreting the constitution? Let’s peer into the annals of history to find a remedy to this situation … Oh look a guillotine!
The first hour of “Snufkin: melody of mooninvalley” is so so charming, excited for the rest Low stress / low stakes energy, gorgeous watercolors, music by sugar-rios and others The gameplay is slow enough to appreciate the artwork, and that slowness creates a lot of space for character development
Games that respect my time as an adult might actually be my favorite genre 🎮
The efforts have diverged! I've made what I wanted for the web with w-lfpup. I don't have much else to build. W-lfpup will become a place to blog about video games and general webdev. Engineering efforts will be focused on forward facing projects at Here By There (my little lovely new media LLC).
10 years ago sf tech meetups were corny and fun. We listened to their corporate bullshit, they provided some pizza. Everyone networked I just went to a meetup that no joke announced "it is not our responsibility to feed you" and tried to charge me 15$ for nachos wtf? The vibe was so hostile
What's fun about a coyote-esque approach to building #html is the linear-time parser! One pass with zero backtracking makes the AST. Templates are memoized. The next pass renders the AST as html. 1 2 done! Python port is up next ... github.com/w-lfpup/coyo... github.com/w-lfpup/coyo...
Coyote-js is live on npm! Create html-spec documents and fragments with function components and templates. It's a perfect compliment to #hotw stacks, especially one the server. If you're stuck in nodejs but you miss #php or LAMP-stacks like I do 💙 might be a good fit. github.com/w-lfpup/coyo...

With the navigation and view transition apis working across all browsers, I think we're ready for a comeback of "just use the web" I like how modern CSS is focused on being framework-less. I think JS could use the same philosophy. Light tethers between browser APIs could be a cool future 🖥️🐺💭
Currently bridging hyperevents with #react! It's a #virtualdom extension. Let's you declaratively: - query json apis - lazy load esmodules - dispatch actions - throttle / queue / debounce UI events Anything hyperevents can do now the virtual-dom can do too! www.npmjs.com/package/@w-l...

Couple new features added to hyperevents: debounces, array buffer requests. What if #html could declaratively query #json apis? or fetch html fragments? or dispatch actions? or queue requests? or debounce inputs? or throttle interactions? That's what hyperevents does! github.com/w-lfpup/hype...

Hey have I got a BRIDGE TO SELL YOU! In fact, it's a bridge making factory. You can make a bridge anywhere you want. Bridges where there's never been bridges before! Bridges clear into the next city! The days of not having your own bridges are over. Bridges for everyone. Bridge or get left behind.
As a westerner "Persepolis" was the only honest media about Iran I could access in the jingoistic 2000s Marjane Satrapi gave my generation a chance to humanize the people we were told to demonize (any middle easterner) Thanks Satrapi. Rest in Power.

The best explanation for #llms was from a coworker: Transformers operate like fungi, mushrooms. Every possible path in the dirt is exhausted. The most direct paths to resources are rewarded. It's a kind of intelligence. Likewise, llms explore every possible path. It takes time, energy
the amount of "my work uses ai now and we are all miserable" posts on reddit is crazy y'all it's a dumpster fire out there
