After extensive community action that delayed the burning of the tingles last summer, DBCA has confirmed that the tingles are back in the firing line in this years plan. This is a disappointing outcome when the government could have taken this opportunity to give the tingles long term protection.

All bauxite mining in the jarrah forest will now be owned by one US company that has a dismal record of compliance with Aus. laws. Alcoa’s expansion should be scrapped, because while it's under assessment, the impact is already clear: mining for bauxite destroys forests and endangers our water.

Burning extensive areas of coastal vegetation is simply incompatible with a region like Walpole, which relies heavily on nature-based tourism.

South32 has read the writing on the wall; mining in the NJF isn’t an option for the future, especially given the massive public backlash. We know Alcoa’s rehabilitation efforts are a farce, so why trust them to take over thousands of hectares of land yet to be rehabilitated by South32?

Not content with destroying the jarrah forest, Alcoa has set its sights on destroying the rock art at Murujuga and Scott Reef too.

Over the past 6 years, the land around this significant jarrah tree was cleared and mined or turned into road. Now, it has died, likely as a result of the disturbance.

Whilst three Tingle blocks were removed from the prescribed burn plan just before Christmas, some Tingles remain in the firing line.
