MS-NOW “Deadline Washington” reported about conditions aboard the carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. Because of gross incompetence in the Pentagon, living conditions aboard the carrier are deplorable. Food is scarce, toilets are not working probably, shortages of personal hygiene products continue.

Sen. John Cornyn and Sen. Thom Tillis are cowards. At the Senate hearing this morning, they tried to excuse their cowardice by pontificating. There is no way Todd Blanche's nomination should have been supported, but the cowards in the Senate folded, as expected.

We are taught that our republic is a nation of laws made by our representatives in Congress. However, considering the millions (or is it billions?) of dollars spent to influence legislation, we need to start inquiring just who our legislators are representing. I think we know the answer.
Money is toxic to a democracy. The huge amounts of money spent by corporations and the rich to bribe politicians, infliluence legislation, and fund political campaigns is causing grave damage to our republic. We need to clean up SCOTUS and reverse Americans United.

The NYT has an excellent story today on how the conflict in Iran is expanding. The strategic nightmare that has caused much loss of sleep for decades is a war in the Middle East. Thanks to the idiots running this country (Trump, Hegseth, etc.), that scenario is more probable every hour.
It is imperative for the survival of our democracy that Trump be removed from office. The preferred strategy is impeachment, but the utterly spinelessness of Senate Republicans means that impeacment is unlikely. The 25th Amendment is also unlikely. So, what are we to do? He must be removed!
Trump is changing the U.S. into an authoritarian police state. As in 1930s Germany, most citizens and military leaders are not directly affected now, so they turn away from the ugly truth. anyone who believes this does not concern them needs to contemplate what a defeated Germany was like in 1945.
Trump's continuing attacks on the press (in general) and on individual journalists should be seen as an assault on the First Amendment. No country can remain free without a free press. We may not like what the press has to say, but their freedom to say it is essential to our own freedom.
While Hegseth is having the testosterone of service members checked, I suggest he start with the senior generals and admirals at the Pentagon. The latter have been cowed into silence and submission, even when doing so meant abandoning their oath to support and defend the Constitution.

The transfer of the corpses of fallen military personnel to their familiesf is often referred to as a "dignified transfer." That is an anodyne euphemism to describe a horrific event for family members involved. Let's call it what it is: the return of corpses of military person(s) killed in action.
Trump is now picking a fight with the Republican Senate majority leader, John Thune. It seems to me that any legislation DJT wants must depend on support from GOP senators. Picking a public fight probably is not a great way to foster a prodiluctive working relationship.

Trump, the draft-dodger, made some comments about the "dignified transfer" of Armed Forces members killed during Trump's war--and that is what it is--in Iran. His comments were unacceptable.
Mark Kelly & his wife are American heroes. Mark is the kind of American that neither Trump nor Hegseth could ever be. Hegseth dislikes Kelly, but that's because he is jealous. I nominate Kelly for POTUS on 2028 (or sooner, if it can be arranged).
While I revere our Constitution, it is not perfect: the need to add a Bill of Rights proved that. Another deficiency pertains to the SCOTUS. It is, by design, an elitist organization with little or no contact with the public. We can only wish that some justices would be sensitive to this deficiency.
The idiot in the Oval Office is threatening retaliation for the U.S. military personnel killed this past weekend. More retaliation will only bring more deaths on both sides. The way to stop further casualties is to stop this war that we are clearly losing.
