George Wallace

An old lawyer in love with new music, among other things. Snappy patter & wordplay a subspecialty. Not one of those George Wallaces you may have heard of. Mostly harmless. Neither mod nor rocker. A melancholy long withdrawing roar.

Dear Mr. America's Favorite President: As you so blithely contemplate the demolition of other Presidents' monuments by your personal fiat, you may be sure that the Nation will feel free, with relish and abandon, to demolish your own gaudybaubles, before the exit door can smite your sorry fundament.

The Kennedy Center is made of irreplaceable marble gifted by Italy. Matisse tapestries found throughout were gifted by France. The massive starburst chandelier in the opera hall and the lights along the walkways were gifts from Sweden. The record-breaking stage curtains were a gift from Japan.

Is there no one in the White House wiling to slam their open hand down hard and resoundingly on the Resolute Desk while shouting, at the topmost of their lungs, "Do you even LISTEN to yourself, man?!?"

You may not make money directly in Humanities but it's Humanities folk who'll save the world overall from the grubbers whose only concern is da money. As Gandalf has it: “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” Wake up, you've got to make merry!

Good lord, is that man still talking? Even his friends [imaginary or other] are surfeited with the sound of that voice. We are drowned in him, and I would far rather it was in a butt of malmsey.

He has a thousand phrases and sentence fragments, he tosses them in the air, picks a dozen or so, and s[p]its them out on Troth Sucaryl. That's all there is to it: Cut ups all the way down, and not even interesting cut ups. Chopped & soothy.

My wife has been travelling out of state the past few days. I have been able to keep track of her whereabouts, thanks to the Expedia survey emails that arrive each time she checks in or out. "Great left turn you made out of the lot! How was your vehicle pickup experience?"

My parents had the best marriage I've ever known: each preferred the other's company to any other other's. (Allowances were always made for my sisters and for me.) I'm torn on the existence of afterlives, but tonight there's nothing I wish for more than that they have been reunited. Farewell, Mamà.💔
