The mean for September was 18.2C, 2.9C above average, the 2nd warmest in the local series. Rainfall of 31mm made it 47th driest
Another day, another record. Today's 24.2C makes it the 130th day this year where the temperature has reached 20C or more. It took 2018 until October 16th to reach 129 - so plenty of chances for this year's total to increase.
Cold front brought 0.4mm and a 1.3C drop in temp.

Warm overnight, the temp didn't drop below 19.4C here. So that's THREE entries into the top 10 warmest September nights this month.
Massive differences in temp across London today. Kew (in the sunshine) made it to 28.1C. Wanstead just 24.5C.
A high of 24.5C today, the warmest September 29th since 2011. BUT late warmth (into October) isn't that unusual over the last decade or so
The warm September (currently set to be second warmest in the local series back to 1797) has seen the 12-month rolling mean climb ever higher: now up to 13.1C!

With the mean temp for the first 12 days of September being 3.2C above average and looking at prospects for the rest of the month (average to warm) it is unlikely there'll be any echo of previous Septembers in super El Nino years...

Somewhat south of the past 24 hours' rainfall action - -just 2mm here. The month total stands at 26.9mm, 52% of the whole month average. The Redbridge roundabout EA gauge is still out of action.

Peter Stone@londonstone.bsky.social · 4w agoWhat appears to be a Victorian monument at the junction of Queen Victoria Street and Bucklersbury in the City of London is actually a ventilation shaft for the underground railway below. It dates from 1987 when the Docklands Light Railway was being contructed.
Another 9.2mm of rain after 10am yesterday brought the event total to 18.3mm, the greatest 'super soaker' (non thundery, torrential) rain event at this station since January 8th. The kind of rain that recharges the land.
