WARF FAQs: How does WARF’s work support UW-Madison?
How does WARF’s work support UW-Madison?
Jeanine Burmania says, "We like to talk about our efforts as the cycle of innovation. There's research, there's new discoveries, there's commercialization, and then there's investment. Through our licensing successes and our endowment, we're able to provide funding to campus each year to support new research. That research then results in new innovations that we get to try to find licensing partners for and have them bring new products to the market."
"We also support campus through some of our strategic initiatives. We have the WARF Accelerator program, which invests in the development of promising new technologies. We have WARF Therapeutics, which is fostering pharmaceutical innovations on campus, and WARF Ventures, which is here to help support and invest in new startup companies that have been created on campus to develop these new innovations that are happening here. So we work to provide support to campus, foster research, protect that new work that comes out of it, find commercialization opportunities and then with the proceeds that we receive, we can support more research on campus and just continue that cycle."
