Progress continues with the v6.0 re-write of my shader. Now with shadows!
The buttons on my trusty G600 mouse are dying, so I bought a new one. First step is removing the placebo “it must be high quality because it feels heavy” weights…
Hooray! I finally beat Ascension 10 with all 5 characters! My overall feeling is that the game is noticeably easier than Slay the Spire 1, even though the monsters are tougher. There's just a lot more ways to build a winning deck.
lol... "birb" (these are tabs I had open from last night. I was researching how to convert shaders from the "Built in Render Pipeline" to the "Universal Render Pipeline"):
I just posted an early alpha version of Fast Fur v6.0 on my Discord server. The lighting is ultra-basic, and it only supports very few features, but it's rendering ~300% more fur detail, has much longer render distance, and runs ~5-10% faster. So I think it's pretty neat!
I’m bored at the hospital (getting some chest pain checked out), so I figured I’d ask Co-Pilot to make a super-fast fur shader. I love that it has no reservations about confidently trash-talking mine, lol…
I released v5.2.0 of my fur shader today, yay! 🎆 I was planning to take a bunch of photos and do promotional vidoes showing it off, however my work on version 6 has suddenly overshadowed it. I've discovered a new rendering technique, and it completely changes EVERYTHING...
Like, look at these numbers. I REALLY SUCK AT THE GAME, and yet it's exactly what I want. The first Slay the Spire is just so merciless, and feels so unfair at max difficulty (because I literally don't know what I'm doing wrong), and I'm having a blast going through those same feelings again.
Slay the Spire 2 is getting review-bombed. IMHO, the criticisms are fair: The developers punish "fun" decks. They nerf anything that is too easy to win with, and made the Act 3 boss Doormaker deliberately hard-counter many popular deck styles. This is, frankly, why I really love the game.
Shader development is delayed tonight, due to StS2 patch notes:
My co-worker brought in leftover Easter cookies she had made. One of them was a shortbread “Paint your own cookie”, so I did:
Hooray! I finally beat Ascention 10 with Defect! (ie. the highest difficulty available so far...) I loved Defect in Slay the Spire, but Defect in Slay the Spire 2 is even more fun. I won with a 1-attack (Null) deck that obliterated everything in its path, lol...
Day 2 without home internet. I must somehow survive until Saturday, but I am already approaching, “Hi Bob!” levels of media deprivation.
I remember in the 90s when everybody's email inbox started rapidly becomming 100% spam. It felt like the death of email was inevitable, until tech companies started building proper tools to attack the problem. Hopefully history will repeat itself, soon! www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-Vr...

Woo hoo! Got my boi Defect back online! Defect was my favourtite StS1 character. I managed to get a 2-game Ascention 20 win streak with him. Slay the Spire 2 might just be the perfect deck-builder card game. It's just so good. (... and, um... I REALLY should have gone to bed already, lol...)
Vancoufur 2026 was great! I got to hang out with friends, attend interesting panels, watch great dancers, retreat to my room when my social battery was empty and work on my shader (lol...), and so many other good memories! And now that I'm home I get to play the just-released Slay the Spire 2!
I've been searching for anything new written about fur rendering in the past ~3 years. So far, the results fit into 3 catergories: - AI slop (😥) - Pre-AI articles I somehow missed (😃) - Links to my shader (🤣)
I bought a 2020 MacBook so that I could work on the shader during convention downtime. The hardware is nice, but I think I could do without the, "you're an idiot, get used to doing it Apple's way you stupid Windows user..." search results when researching if it's possible to re-configure something.
heh… I didn’t expect the, “How-to make furry art with 1989 Deluxe Paint” panel at Vancoufur to be packed, lol…
I really like orels' Shader Generator. It seems like the right foundation to start building Fast Fur v6.0 on...
Hooray! My preference would have been to go to permanent Standard Time, but I’m okay with this compromise if that’s what it took to make it finally happen. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

If somebody you love is a Star Trek fan, I encourage you to do a wellness check every thursday evening. I've only seen clips, but from what I have seen/heard, Starfleet Academy is so bad that it's doing to Star Trek fans what Season 8 of Game of Thrones did to its fan base.

Hooray! My Bigscreen Beyond arrived! but… um… the visuals look like crap? I think I need to get my eyes checked. Everything I’ve read says it should look better than my Quest Pro. Maybe they got my prescription wrong?
I'm having a classic night of fixing one bug and creating two more, lol... (my nose isn't supposed to be speckly)
My co-worker has been super-supportive of me making my shader. He trained to be a graphic artist, but we both ended up working desk jobs in HVAC. He’s been adamantly refusing payment from me for the GUI icons he made, so tomorrow I force him to accept this “Christmas Bonus” (it’s a Steam Deck).
The “but” in this statement from the new Mozilla CEO, justifying his “the people yearn for more AI” vision for Firefox’s future, seems like an odd choice of words. Why not “and”? Why the implication that honesty must be balanced against being fast and modern?
Fast Fur V5.1.0 is officially released! I actually added a whole bunch of new stuff, but the one feature EVERYBODY wants is the new Light Volumes support, lol...
