Every June, a small army of volunteers and @nature.org staff walk the San Pedro River for “wet/dry” surface 💧mapping. This year’s effort started out wet (⛈️🌈✨🛻🫣) and ended with a dry reach. (Haven’t pushed a 🛻 out of mud in a while😅) @science.nature.org #WaterResources

If that verifies, it would break the record for the earliest occurrence of 107°F since records began in 1895, pulverising the previous record by a whopping 44 days. This is totally bonkers.
I’ve pumped in some epic and bizzaro places while doing field work (mountain tops? ✔️cenotes? ✔️ effluent outflow in mid June🥵?✔️) but my solo hike in the Huachucas last week to check on our water monitoring cameras was oddly peaceful and relaxing 🧘🏼♀️

Yesterday I had the opportunity to tour the mega restoration project at AZ’s only “working” fen. Peat has been generated here for ~3000 years! The restoration strategy is “stage zero” - bringing the landscape to a level grade and letting the water do the work! #conservation @science.nature.org
