I don’t know if this is contentious, though it feels like it will be, but after a season and a bit of the new Rurouni Kenshin anime I’m ready to say it’s far superior to the 90s version

The original Candyman (1992) absolutely wrecked my shop. I was 10/11 when I saw it. I’d watched a bunch of the slasher fare on free HBO weekends but for whatever reason Candyman just got me. I still don’t feel good saying it in front of a mirror even once, let alone thrice.
In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?
I’m sure you can poke holes in this idea, but if your goal is to maximize productivity / output, then it behooves you to maximize engagement. People won’t engage in clearly rigged games. If the top of the ladder is unreachable, you’re just losing potential participants to apathy / disinterest
in gaming terms this is just a nerf. and we should nerf overpowered builds, so to speak. nerfing universally incentivizes people who keep playing to find new ways to succeed and find new ways to run up their score (ie “create economic value”). balance patches are good, taxes are just that
for some reason I find myself watching Gargoyles yet again. this show was too good for its Disney afternoon slot. a ludicrous collection of voice talent, serialized drama in a sea of episodic media. an audacious four episode series open. I don’t know how they got away with it but I’m glad they did
Blizzard appears to have COOKED with Diablo IV season 15. I would like to not be on constant escalations/bridges so I can spend more time with this. Claude, rewrite our infrastructure. Make no mistakes. 🫠

Yes, especially when I’m rapid posting and fuck up. However, there’s this part of me that thinks it’s better if we just own our errors and have to correct in a follow up. Using IRC more again has made me cognizant of how much I rely on fast-editing my messages instead of … stopping and thinking.
Hello — have you ever wanted to edit your posts?
my work continues giving me infinite tokens for, well, work. it "feels good" to use the most powerful available machinery for every task, but as the sudden onset of "tokenomics" is hitting people, for my own personal use on small codebases I genuinely think Opus (or comparable) is mostly overkill
genuinely sonnet 4.6 for internet search, and low-stakes coding in small projects/blitting out toy scripts. opus 4.7/4.8 if you're done caring about tokens for a while or on the turbo $$ subscription. verbose custom prompts and a littany of skills/etc are a terrible trap, be judicious here
i'm noodling on a post (or series?) about how software development has been upended for me in the last ~12-18 months, in the interim i spent too much time analyzing a favorite weird al song etc.teleri.net/2026/05/16/b...

this Reddit ad really packed a lot of mismatched jargon in. Bubbles are great!

with the new Pope being from Chicago, can we assume the Vatican will *finally* get a Portillo's? a bit of beef dip during mass would be great
i know i do not post enough these days but just wanted to check in and ask an important question ... is it just me or is the discord 'wink' emoji kinda... weirdly horny-looking?
i'm listening to Revolver today because the first song is "Taxman" (happy tax day!), and there's a "2022 mix" in 🍎🎶 and they have either inserted or really emphasized a yawn sound in "I'm Only Sleeping" and it is SO UNSETTLING WHY DID THEY DO THIS link: youtu.be/sAG3m3p9UeI?...

the PowerShell DSC team has rewritten their core in golang and said "you do not need PowerShell at all to use this" which is... idk. something. smart to embrace industry-wide/cross-plat standards, but also quite a look devblogs.microsoft.com/powershell/a...

for fun (and as a leetcode-esque exercise) i wrote a wordle solver that would do a given wordle using a provided dictionary of five letter word candidates, determining the frequency of letters and optimal next move given the state of the board coincidentally, that was the last time i played wordle
The NFL and the NHL have only been made more entertaining by the increased use of analytics. But some say that in the age of automation, all games are at risk.

musically inclined friends, do you have opinions on digital pianos/keyboards? i am very novice, but interested in taking lessons, and especially learning music theory more formally. can play drums well, and guitar ... acceptably, but piano is new to me. recommendations/brands would be appreciated!
as a person who has done his fair share of these for work, i contend people never appreciate them as much as they ought to
