REMEMBER OUR PATRIOT DEAD Yesterday, members of the Welsh Underground Network and @PGCCymru travelled to Abergele to commemorate the lives of George Taylor and Alwyn Jones, two men who sadly lost their lives defending the rights of the Welsh nation to dignity and respect.... (1/3)

A wreath made up of red roses laid at the grave of George Taylor, one of the Abergele Martyrs. The grave says "Gwell angau na chywilydd" ("Better death than shame") on top and on the bottom "Dulce et decorum et pro patria mori" ("It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country"). Members stand around the grave of George Taylor listening to a speech being read out loud.Members stood in front of the Capel Celyn reservoir, holding the flags of the Welsh Underground Network and Plaid Gomiwnyddol Cymru in the centre. In front of them are several bin bags from a litter pick.

Just under two years ago, Keir Starmer began writing his legacy as Prime Minister. All he's managed to conjure up in that time is a continuation of austerity, pathetic pandering to bigotry, and projecting his allegiance to the richest, and most powerful forces in the world.

At the top of the page in big, bold text reads “THE MOST HATED MAN IN BRITAIN”. There is a photograph of Keir Starmer at his resignation speech outside of Number 10 Downing Street underneath the title. He is looking just off-centre of the camera’s lens, talking to the press and the media.

The rest of the page contains two paragraphs of text, printing:
“Keir Starmer’s First instinct at every moment of his time as Prime Minister has been to attack the vulnerable, to pander to the “concerns” of bigots and to clamp down on dissent.

At every opportunity he has sided with the rich & powerful: with American imperialism, with Israeli genocide, with newspaper tycoons and race rioters.”

Underneath the title is a large, landscape photograph of Keir Starmer at the same resignation speech outside of 10 Downing Street. He is walking away from two microphones that are placed on the far right of the photograph, with a defeated expression. Under the photograph, are three paragraphs of text, that read:

“Keir Starmer has revealed the true nature of the Labour Party: corrupt, petty, bigoted, patronising and elitist, hiding their contempt for the working class behind meagre regorms.

His time as Prime Minister will be remembered for race riots, for the Mandelson scandal, for the Palestine Action ban, for anti-trans guidance, for his contempt for devolution and for his brute force attempts to push sick and disabled people into work.

He has been a tool for the ruling class and our only regret in seeing him go is that another Labour Prime Minister will replace him.”

Underneath the text are four social media banners, and the URL for the Welsh Underground Network’s website: “Welshundergroundnetwork.com, @WELSHUGN on Facebook, @WELSHUGN on Twitter, @WELSHUNDERGROUNDNETWORK on Instagram, and @Welshundergroundnetwork.cymru on Bluesky!”

Yesterday, WUN Members volunteered at Big Queer Picnic, a celebratory event for the LGBTQ+ community. We collected rubbish and helped set up the stage area. We've been helping at BQP for years now, and in that time it has ballooned in size. This was their biggest year ever. Happy Pride everyone!

Yesterday, Welsh Underground Network Members volunteered at Big Queer Picnic, a celebratory event for the LGBTQ+ community.

We collected rubbish, handed out bottled water and helped set up the stage area.

We've been helping at BQP for years now, and in that time it has doubled or tripled in size. This was their biggest year ever. Happy Pride everyone!

A couple of our members made their way into The Valleys to check up on and maintain our vegetable plants; snacking on the fresh pea pods as we de-weeded the soon to be flowering cabbages. Over the next few weeks, we expect to see carrots, onions, and tomatoes begin to show.

[Alt Text 1.] Inside of an opaque greenhouse are two Welsh Underground Members gardening. One is picking weeds out of the plant bed, while the other is watering plants with a large watering can. Outside the greenhouse, is a person strimming the grass with a large electric strummer. They are stood in a grassy garden on an overcast day. In the grassy garden, is a large metal dustbin filled with poles and wooden beams. At the front of the image, is a garden bed full of soil, grass, weeds, and leaves.[Alt Text 2.] The photo centres a vegetable bed filled with planted onions and peppers. They are still in an early stage of development, with only long green stems and delicate leaves sticking out of the ground. The soil is well watered, and has been de-weeded. The bed is made out of pale wooden planks, and is raised roughly two feet off the ground.[Alt Text 3.] Centred in this photo is a healthy, green, and flowering cabbage plant. There are a few weeds and leaves surrounding the plant, all of which are contained in the same vegetable bed as the cabbage. The soil is a dark brown, and well watered.[Alt Text 4.] Inside of a large vegetable bed, there are 5 thin, vertical wooden poles in sequence starting at the front of the photograph, that end near the back of the photograph. The poles near the back are not in the lenses' focal distance so they are blurry. Attached to the poles using a mix of thin string, and thicker rope are a number of pea plants! There is a bright, fresh pea pod that has grown on one of the plant's stem. The rest of the photograph contains 3 large, blue drums that collects rain water, as well as a small opaque greenhouse.

We wholeheartedly condemn the new anti-trans guidance this government have produced, and send unequivocal solidarity to our trans comrades & neighbours. We call on everyone, trans and cis, to defy this attempt to segregate trans people out of public life. 1/2

The government have published their latest attack on the trans community. What is being proposed has been weakened by the efforts of many progressive groups, but is still fundamentally an attempt to segregate trans people out of public spaces.

This is the product of an organised hate movement. It must be resisted. We call on everyone, trans and cis, to defy this guidance any way they can and to agitate against it.

As ever, we send unequivocal support and solidarity to our trans comrades & neighbours. The guidance refers to cis women and cis men as “biological women” and “biological men”. This degrades trans people by treating them as “fake women” and “fake men”, and wilfully ignores the biological changes many trans people undergo during transition.

It totally ignores intersex people, assuming that everyone is neatly born male or female and that that “birth sex”, is the most relevant factor in

It treats the presence of trans people in public spaces as potential discrimination against cis people, and argues that the removal of trans people from those spaces can be a reasonable step.

It allows venues to relegate trans people to gender neutral facilities only, treating them as a de-facto “third sex”, as second-class citizens.Dedicated trans organisations have already been posting detailed overviews of the guidance and its implications. We suggest reading those statements after this one.

Fantastic journalistic and mutual aid work is already being done in the trans community, and that is a strong foundation for the wider progressive movement to build upon when opposing this anti-trans guidance.

Cis people must pull their weight and follow the lead of their trans peers. When a vulnerable section of the working class comes under attack, it is the responsibility of the rest of the class to rally around and defend them.Capitalism has since its beginning relied on strict enforcement of gender roles and gendered labour. As science and conditions have advanced, and new innovations have given queer communities new language and ideas to organise around, the capitalist gender order faces new challenges.

To defend itself and adapt to this change, the capitalist system has tried to assimilate the more “acceptable” aspects of the LGBTQ+ movement, while continuing intense persecution of the less “marketable” and more “radical” aspects.

The result is a growing trans underclass, relegated to the sections of the sevice industries with the worst conditions, doing traditionally “feminine” labour. Trans women in particular are one of the worst paid and most under-employed demographics in the whole of Europe.
