Salt Lake City Weekly is hiring a 25-hour Associate A&E Editor to oversee local Music & Dining sections, plus other special issues. Point interested parties my way.
Attention: Do you (or someone you know) consume a lot of local news in the Salt Lake area (newspapers, TV, radio, etc.)? Do you enjoy writing or wish to get better? Send me a message and we’ll chat about a potential side gig opportunity.
Pioneer Day: A complicated occasion, as is any instance of displacement & additional settlement to an inhabited land. There were violent conflicts as well as peaceful coexistence among communities. I wish people could acknowledge both aspects w/o being ignorantly proud or dismissively contemptuous
The discourse around IMAX re: Nolan movies is silly imo. A far greater issue is the sound in his films, which for years has been garbage
From Hugh Nibley’s “Man’s Dominion, or Subduing the Earth”
Breaking News: The Trump administration moved to open the habitats of imperiled animals to farming, drilling, mining and other development. Environmentalists characterized it as the most severe erosion of protections for wildlife in half a century. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/10/c...
Tbh, I really don’t care about what snarky thing you have to say about x, what mockery you’ve thought up for y. Tell me about things that genuinely give you joy, that excite you, and help you be a better person!
Always fun to jump on here and know that there are still collectively shared experiences being had
Some of you are going to want a Mormon take on this but it’s just the Let Them Fight meme.
Mike Lee is not just rage-tweeting about the DoD's new religion codes, he's now in a full meltdown manically replying to people demanding they read the Book of Mormon because he can't shrug off how his far-right brainworms X feed was full of people saying "lol Mormons aren't Christians, suck it."

Likely not the meaning of the passage, but I couldn’t help but think of 2 Thessalonians 2:2-4

For all the ugliness out there, this is still an amazingly beautiful world
A-freaking-men. Comforting to see others giving the Luddites their due
The Luddites were the good guys! Technically skilled masters of their textile crafts, they opposed wealthy industrial speculators who forced workers (including children) to give up control over their future and toil in Blake’s “dark satanic mills.” In this AI moment, we can learn a lot from them.
Wow. Stay tuned for Vance’s upcoming “We Real Cool: White Men and Masculinity”
Someone sent me this.
Looking very lovely today, SLC (Despite the sniffles, I LOVE the spring)
