Did a quick recce for a #Chingford walk I’m doing on Sunday and although I’ve passed this spot multiple times I’ve never stopped to admire St Peter & St Paul Church from this angle!
I don’t often go via #Woodford Station so that’s my excuse for not noticing this mosaic and sign before. I did know about the Pankhurst local connection but it should be more widely broadcast.
If you missed my recent “Secrets of Wood Street” #Walthamstow walks join me on either Thurs 13th or Sat 22nd August to discover the area once known as “On the Forest”, also the site of early film studios, a “hidden” church etc with @footprintsoflondon.bsky.social www.eventbrite.co.uk/cc/waltham-f...
Last two performances today of The Merry Wives of Windsor with #TheGreekTheatrePlayers in #Walthamstow. It was a fantastic evening. I have been attending for years and am so lucky to live nearby. Don’t forget to take a cushion! www.greektheatreplayers.co.uk

I’m really looking forward to my annual visit to see the Greek Theatre Players in #Walthamstow next week. From 22nd-25th July 2026 they will be performing The Merry Wives of Windsor. Entrance is at the bend on Woodbury Rd E17 9SB. Tickets are on the door only. www.greektheatreplayers.co.uk
Built in 1924, the Greek Theatre at Walthamstow School for Girls opened in 1925. The project was led by headmistress Mary Norris. The theatre was used for school productions, such as Iphigenia, c.1930. The local Greek Theatre Players now present a Shakespeare play here every summer. #WorldTheatreDay
Still a few spaces for next Sunday’s tours of #WalthamForest Town Hall Join me to explore this fascinating building www.eventbrite.com/o/8725855292...
Argh dropped 60+ Oyster in grounds of St #Marylebone Church at start of walk. In Rail200 card holder. Annoyingly when I noticed later someone on my walk remembered seeing it on the ground! Why didn’t they say something! Hoping someone googles me! Although I’m not the only JM!
This is a bit niche but has anyone else come across depictions of £ s d on ceilings of civic buildings like this in #Walthamstow? The foyer originally had a counter for rate payments etc. I’m doing tours this Sunday if you would like to see this in person! www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/waltham-fo...

I had a fantastic day at the #AntiquesRoadshow at #ValentinesMansion yesterday. It was so well organised and we were so very lucky with the weather. Found out my Georgian looking rummer glass is from the 1970s (at least I can use it now - a perfect glass for a large g&t)!
We're holding a meet up in London on 1st July. It doesn't matter if you're an author, broadcaster, tour guide or general hustler, you're more than welcome as long as you work in history and aren't part of academia (sorry lovely academics!) DM us for location as places are limited!
This is glorious. (From the British Museum, Midsummer 1939.)
I saw this last night. @thejinkx.bsky.social was absolutely amazing! The standing ovation at the end said it all.
@thejinkx.bsky.social is the talk of the town as Judy Garland (as she should be) End of the Rainbow is now playing at Walthamstow until Sat 21 Jun. We'd get on it quick if we were you x buff.ly/hDTtaFk 📽️ Jake Waby

I’ve gone down a bit of a rabbit hole with these two #bollards! My initial thoughts were that MBS was a parish but I now realise they refer to the former Metropolitan Borough of Stepney. The newer one is outside the old Jewish soup kitchen and the other in Lolesworth Close. Both E1.
In 1897 a medical officer said Chingford was ‘cut off to a great extent from the rest of the world’. It's obviously not cut off now but it has a very different history to its neighbour Walthamstow. @westminsterwalks.bsky.social explores #Chingford on Monday. Book at footprintsoflondon.com
What are your plans this #BankHoliday Monday? Why not join me on a walk around N #Chingford. Hear about a cast of characters that includes Queen Victoria, Lawrence of Arabia & Ivor Novello.
