West Suffolk Council has written to the Home Office to set out why it believes the RAF Barnham site is both unsuitable and unlawful for use as asylum seeker accommodation.👇

Cllr Cliff Waterman, Leader of West Suffolk Council, said: “We need to be clear; this doesn’t change the status, and no decision has been made by the Government. What it does mean is that there will be a consultation where everyone will be able to submit their views. While I respect everyone’s right to peaceful protest, our approach will be evidence based and seek to bridge dialogue between our communities and the Government. As a consultee West Suffolk Council will reiterate that we think the site is neither suitable nor lawful for use as asylum seeker accommodation. We will also be making sure that the very genuine concerns and views of local residents in Suffolk and over the border into Norfolk are heard loud and clear.”
