Going to one the country’s most premiere environmental colleges in the mid/late ‘00s was a weird time. Climate change was BARELY mentioned, we talked way too much about 1970s peak oil theory, and pop culture widely let us believe that glass milk bottles and chunky yarn gloves would save the planet.

A few years ago I had a group of 3rd grade students. One of them had a book of Nancy comics (good choice) that she had checked out from the library. One other kid asked her what she was reading and she said something like “oh it’s this weird book of little pictures where the characters talk.”

The first time I heard about Quentin Tarantino was in middle school. My dad was listening to Howard Stern interview him while we were driving to the hardware store. I remember thinking “this guy sounds like a real asshole.”

At some point we’ve all picked up an obscure Krautrock reissue, carried it around a record store, and ultimately put it back after decided we didn’t want to pay 35 dollars for a record that may only be half good, right?
