I weave I breathe

I fell in love with him when he was washing dishes at the Marae. Love at first sight 🥰 We married six months later. That was 38 years ago. Our life together has been filled with creating a home, a family and art. Happy Anniversary Sam Hauwaho 💖

I'm babysitting my mokopuna at their house. Disney channel is on which is a whole lot better than watching the leaders debate. Disney fantasies are a lot less fantastical than the lies in luxons head

I completed the Kaitaka I wove to honour my late father, TeRangikaiamokura Hetet . The first place I took the Kaitaka to was to lay on one of the Waka dad carved. This served as a form of Karakia - an acknowledgement of my dad and of the Kaitaka and its story.

Pouhine came home to me. Pouhine came home to spend alone time with mama😊 Just me and her in my weaving room. Pouhine has watched me weave her little brother. Pouhine has silently cheered me on.

Last week I took my mokopuna, Rangiātea, to see my Taaniko on display at Te Papa. She was more interested in other stuff 😊 Her middle name is Veranoa.... So I understand her looking for her Koro Sam was more important

To be worn. That's what we weave for. Wiremu Moeahu wearing one of my mums Kahukiwi. Puti Olsen wearing one of my Piupiu. My son in law, Reihana Rapira wearing one of my pieces

Have just returned from the Tangihanga for Ta Hirini Moko Mead. For over 20 yrs he generously gave of his time.We spent many hours talking about weaving, art, teaching. I will miss his wisdom & unwavering interest in mine and Sams life of Māori Art & care of us & of our whanau. Kia au to moe Matua😢💜

A thread about skill, knowledge, pride..... And complete ignorance I'm proud of the 38 years my husband Sam has dedicated to his art (Whakairo) and the years he spent learning under my dad. Sam works hard. Te Ara Tupua could be seen to be his legacy piece. It will outlast him

My little brother, Len designed this awning at the Petone end of Te Ara Tupua. He based it on a Manu tukutuku our mum made and had suspended over the drive leading to her and dads art studios. Very proud of the bro for remembering our mum this way. She would be flapping her Angel wings 💛

When Sam was made redundant, builder son and his tradie siblings built Sam a carving space. Today, builder son started carving with his dad. Sam is happy. I'm a little jealous. I thought this son was going to be my weaver. I'm happy for them though. Does my heart good

Dawn ceremony - blessing of Te Ara Tupua. I'm so proud of my Sam. Today, I saw his carving for the first time. It made me catch my breath. This is the last piece my dad helped Sam design. He would be so proud of his son in law 💙
