I spent decades of my life loving the craft of writing the best code, priding myself in generally being regarded as pretty good at what I do. LLMs gave me a bit of a forced perspective shift that taught me what I really enjoy is the building of the system, the architecting of how it’s going to work.

Today is my last day being responsible for any random thing around Bluesky. Its been a looooong journey and things feel calm enough now that I can finally take a break and figure out what I want to do next (immediate next is vacation ofc).

I made dinner plans today, i know this because I mentioned having dinner plans on Tuesday to two other friends. I unfortunately don’t remember the plans themselves though.

The computer sometimes says oops now.

Claude wrote unit tests to test the code it wrote for me. It also took screenshots of the app it built and verified it looked as expected. Again, Skill issue.

Working on my own coding harness. It seemed inevitable. Maybe I'll write a better readme tomorrow, but the tldr is you should be spending your time using it designing the spec and answering questions about the backlog, then when the agent is working, it can do so for long periods without you.

You should be designing your entire system to be resilient to random engineers pushing horribly broken things. Design around potential issues, don’t just hope they never hit you.

I keep forgetting people think there’s a “safe” way to give AIs dangerous access to things. Like, no, it is never safe. Embrace it. Put it in situatons where screwing up can’t matter. If you get into a situation where your answer to a voluntary LLM inquiry could be life or death, uh, don’t do that
