Just put a fresh battery in an ancient Timex Ironman running watch that I dug out of a drawer. Default date was 01 Jan 1993… Pushed buttons until I figured out how to set the time and date and it is up and running again (though I’m not, more’s the pity.)

Lots of talk about 62s at majors, and particularly the ones that have been shot this week at @TheOpen – but shouldn’t it matter what the course is playing to? A 62 at Royal Birkdale when it’s playing to a par of 70 (8-under) can’t count for as much as a 10-under 62 on a par-72.

Turns out if you're going to build an improvised manual mount for a gun that is intended to be turret mounted in an attack helicopter, you may want to pick up a physics textbook and look up things like how applying a linear force to a point that is offset from a rotational axis translates to torque.

Few things in the publishing world piss me off more than a paperback release with a completely different title than the original hardback. The paperback has been on my shelf for years, unread, hidden by double-shelved books in front of it. I bought the hardback maybe last year. 1/2

I just closed the cover on my first read of “Eagle Days” by Dr. Victoria Taylor, aka @spitfirefilly.bsky.social – and I have to say that this is a book which belongs in the collection of anyone who wants to have as complete as possible an understanding of the Battle of Britain.

Currently rewatching the very enjoyable British television series “Foyle’s War”, and the time period – especially the first two seasons, which take place during the summer and fall of 1940 – fits well with my current reading, @spitfirefilly.bsky.social ’s quite excellent “Eagle Days”:

Found two Golf Galaxy gift cards I’d forgotten about, not for a lot of 💰. The only golf-related thing I need right now is golf balls (I lose a LOT of golf balls), and the two cards just covered a dozen new Titleists – that I will at some point donate to various outlying districts of my local course.

Our 16-year-old terrier-mix doggo has been having trouble getting in and out of the house via the doggie door, so I made him a step. This is why dads keep bits of scrap lumber from DIY projects. The next thing might be repainting that doorway… 🙄
