Tried plain-text double entry accounting in 2021 with hledger and didn't find the motivation to keep it up for more than a week or two. Trying again in 2026 with Beancount and this time I think I'm going to stick with it.

In 2024, I wrote a blog post summarizing the state of AI as I saw it. In 2026, I wrote a follow-up, because the world had changed quite a bit. I don't know if I'm going to be able to wait until 2028 for the next installment; things are still changing too fast.

Several phishing attempts a day get past my filters and land in my inbox. When I look in my spam folder, I see on the order of 10 phishin attempts per day in there too. How disheartening to see sooooo much activity seeking to rip people off.

Working with AI agents is like working with an extremely fast, dumb coworker who has a prodigious but unreliable memory, and is incredibly eager to please but also entirely unconcerned with getting things right.
