Not sure how much analysis can be done from this Raptors game. CMB had his moments. Poeltl didn't look encased in cement. Miami had some trouble with Barrett and Barnes. Giannis dishing to all those shooters is going to be pretty good (but Bam needs to chill).
First Raptors starting lineup of the year is: Immanuel Quickley Ja'Kobe Walter RJ Barrett Scottie Barnes Jakob Poeltl Heat Mr. 83 Freak Wiggz Splash Brother Off Night
Wrote about Darko Rajakovic seeming like a different man today ahead of Year 4 as Raptors head coach. Confident, funny, ready to compete. Only 12 current coaches hired before him! Wild. torontosun.com/sports/baske...
Confident, cool Darko Rajakovic brings the jokes to start Year 4 coaching the Raptors
Toronto return of Kawhi Leonard not only reason head coach Darko Rajakovic seemed different when he kicked off 2026-27 media day. Read on.

Jakob Poeltl: "I thought it was a really good summer. Focused on the back a lot. I've modified my strength and conditioning training quite a bit to try to get ahead of it and get my body in the best position for a long season."
Leonard on his pairing with Barnes: "I think it's going to work great because we're coming in to play defence first... I think the offensive end is going to take care of itself... Scottie's a great passer."
Kawhi Leonard says hello. "Excited to be here." Says he's. not going to talk about the scandal. "Talking with the PA, I think the best decision is to move forward. I already was a distraction for the last 70 days. Moving forward just want to talk about the Toronto Raptors today."
Raptors media day has arrived. Believe it's Season 18 for me on the Raptors beat, give or take some part time draft stuff early and some years where I was only around a bit. Darko Rajakovic will speak first.
Here's what Bobby Webster had to say about all things Kawhi Leonard. Tomorrow more on what else he said: torontosun.com/sports/baske...
What Raptors GM Bobby Webster said about bringing Kawhi Leonard back to Toronto

Webster said changing parameters of deal (like holding Clippers hostage) was never a thought. I wrote why that would be the case a few weeks ago. Bobby said the same. Just not how things are done. A deal is a deal if you want to make more.: torontosun.com/sports/baske...
Why the Raptors won't extort Clippers to trade less for Kawhi Leonard
Some have wondered if the Toronto Raptors can alter the terms of their trade agreement with the LA Clippers for Kawhi Leonard. Read more.

My only take on Vladdy Guerrero's insane comments was Kobe Bryant got the contract he seems to be talking about. Kobe helped lead the Lakers to a bunch of titles and signed for a swan song not 15 years, partly of prime like Jays hoping with Vladdy.
Any Raptors burning questions ahead of training camp? Bobby Webster will give his state of the union tomorrow.
The vibes are quite different from 2018, when not even the Raptors knew if Kawhi would show up happy, healthy and motivated.
Jeremy Castleberry returns with Kawhi to Toronto as an assistant coach, as expected. He, Kyle Anderson and Alex McKechnie are all of course Kawhi whisperers, to some degree.

Eric has long been the best writer on the Raptors beat, but is an even better dude. Our time covering the Raptors has nearly completely coincided (I did some part-time stuff earlier but he was full-time before me). Thanks for a lot of classic moments over the years. Best in the new role EKor!

Extort the Clippers for revenge? Don’t bet on the Raptors doing that. Plus the full scale of the Kawhi carnage for Clippers since 2019: torontosun.com/sports/baske...

Shoutout to Hamilton. Fans have really showed up to watch their homegrown (2-time) MVP and support Team Canada this week. Word is attendance was roughly 11,000 for each game. Packed house and great/loud crowds. Well done.
Josh Lewenberg@jlewenberg.bsky.social · 3mo agoShai Gilgeous-Alexander on playing in front of his hometown crowd: “For as long as I’ve known Hamilton, it’s always loved sports. When a homegrown talent is involved it’s amplified and that’s what we got tonight… Hamilton might need an NBA team one day”
