Android 17 (unless I'm missing something) is just foisted AI, Chrome, Gmail, Google Messages, Android auto, and Gboard — none of which I want or use. Gigs of download, pretty disappointing.

#CSS Gap Decorations for adding lines to grid and flex gaps
If you're dealing with SVG icons you probably know the pain of overwriting colors. There's a new spec in the making that allows controlling CSS variables from "the outside". And it's shipping in Firefox already! https://drafts.csswg.org...
UK petition for immediate ban on sale or promotion of "Smart glasses" petition.parliament.uk/petitions/76.... (At the very least, they should be renamed 'shart glasses'). [Reposted as I ballsed up the URL before and Bluesky doesn't allow edits]

The first three fall into Goodharts Law, I doubt the most recent addition to the museum does though. If anyone knows of the original author please let me know so they can be credited.
This is a great example of how to encourage diversity at a conference. Looking forward to it, in just 257 days...
As of this morning we have 43 tickets left for #SotB2027 And we haven't even announced the line up. Do not be disappointed and buy early 2027.stateofthebrowser.com/tickets/#:~:...
CSS `@layers` have the biggest impact to getting styles under control. I'm such a big fan of this unglamorous power feature. My tip is to put primitive and semantic "tokens" last because they really shouldn't change.
I've been trying to migrate over to @eurosky.social it says "Did already has an active migration in progress. Please wait for it to complete out fail before starting a new migration" should I wait more than 2 weeks? Can I find the status somewhere?
I've been getting various npm "Important Account Notice" phishing emails recently. Stay vigilant people.
Trying not to have fomo for #pixelpioneers today, I'll be able to make @webdevconf.com in October so all's not lost.
The world as we know it may not be ending! Employers are reversing many AI layoffs. "Studies find up to 50% of companies that replaced workers with AI are rehiring or expressing regret". Issues involve institutional knowledge, and disappointing productivity gains. www.techspot.com/news/112707-...
The AI boomerang effect: more data suggests employers are reversing AI layoffs
In some studies, roughly a third of companies that attempted to replace workers with AI have either rehired some of them or expressed regret over the decision....

What an excellent conference we had at #cssday for the last 2 days. Great talks, great people, great organisation, great food, and great coffee.
Absolutely blowing minds! Great presentation. 🤯
Wowow @rebane2001.bsky.social is blowing everyone’s minds at #cssday 🤯 Obsessed with her and this talk! Next time someone tells me CSS isn’t a programming language I’m going to send them the video from this talk 😆 Check out lyra.horse for more goodies
@joshtumath.uk #cssday what strategies do you see working best for when there are long words at larger font sizes. E.g. Antidisestablishmentarianism.
A great talk, reminding us the quirky fun, weird web still exists. Sara explores the accessibility approaches and considerations. Do you dare to dive in?
For anyone who was (and wasn't!) at The Web You Want: A previously recorded video is available at 2025.stateofthebrowser.com/speaker/sara... including all the links from the slides, which you can find at slides.sarajoy.dev/whimsica11y/...
The convention of boarding a plane of the "port" (left) side. I don't know for sure but I expect it's from ye olde days of ships docking on the port side rather than starboard.
Seems like a lot of people are heading to the great Amsterdam for JSNation, React Summit, and @cssday.nl (the best one). Feels like it's going to be like the scene from Anchor Man on the streets.
This is so awesome. It'll be nice to remove the heading level override props. Just need to get it in the other engines.
Ever struggled to get heading tags right in includes/components? headingoffset could be the answer…
Looking to get some new domains and hosting for using with Coolify. Any top recommendations from UK/EU folks. Good privacy, ethics, etc would be good. I've been using 123-Reg for a while and thought it might be a good time to reassess options.
Wow, that's an interesting article.
Some browsers check what site you're on and render the page differently. Yup, you read that right. TikTok gets special treatment. So does Netflix. Instagram. Even SeatGuru. Safari and Firefox both do this. Chrome doesn't. There's a reason for that... Read on. denodell.com/blog/browser...
Officially going to @cssday.nl I've followed along remotely for so many years.
Today's a good day to finally uninstall Chrome and move to something else. I only had Chrome on my work machine as a non-dev browser. Firefox and Chromium (is that still safe?) it is. Time to try Vivaldi on Linux?
I find it hard to relate to the motivation behind systemic persecution of people. Are some less human than others?
Trevor Project released its annual LGBTQ youth mental health report. The results are shocking. 40% of trans youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. Trans youth who wanted hormones but couldn’t access them were nearly twice as likely to attempt suicide than those who could.
